Maximo Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 (edited) For DCS Wishlist: I wanted to bring up the F-8 Crusader -- I think this would be a good match up for the MiG-21. The U.S. Navy did use it for something called dissimilar air combat training (DACT)...using the F-8 to represent the MiG-21. This would give the MiG-21 a good 1 v 1 dogfight on the servers, campaigns, etc. F-8 vs MiG-21. Would like to see it flight modeled and mouse driven cockpit like the F-86F. Maybe a Museum Relic type of campaign with MiG 21 and MiG 15 aircraft in the mix.... Guns, rockets, air-to-air missiles, bombs, reconnaissance cameras, folding wings. Inflight refueling probe too - was considered very difficult to air refuel because the drogue basket was like 2 feet from the canopy of the F8 pilot....would break a lot of canopies! (hey, we're DCS pilots....we LOVE a challenge!!! :-) Also, I can't imagine what it would be like to also land this jet with the wing raised up for landing it on an aircraft carrier--must have been a very flat approach to the carrier deck even with flaps down and the wing up. Could use Caucasus maps, etc. LOVE this jet! If you forget to lower the wing before entering very high speeds, you can rip the wing off (if still in the raised position). Will update this intro thread as time permits. Has four 20 mm cannons (firing below...un-retouched photo): This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. Below: Look at his wings!!! They're still folded! (not a fake photo). Try flight modeling that!!! :-) Bullpup air to ground missile on F-8 (end) Edited November 1, 2017 by Maximo
Lookiss Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 It'd be great if ED would start thinking about late 50's, early 60's jets at some point. Too many aircraft, among which the F-8 would be a prime candidate. But without a proper map that reflects that era, these modules would be orphans, much like the F-86 and Mig-15 that we have now. Hopefully this will change after the 2.5 merge... There's always hope.
AG-51_Razor Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 This would be an absolute dream come true!! Definitely a first day purchase for me! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Gman109 Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 +1, one of my favorite aircraft. Barrett Tillman has written a lot about it, and done many videos available on YT. The old "Dogfights" series did a pretty good episode on the F8, the "Last of the Gunfighters" I believe the episode was called, the interviews with the pilots who fought vs Mig21/17/19 in it were excellent. One of my favorite single engine jet fighters of all time, and with the carrier ops, it'd make a great addition to the growing DCS inventory someday. Evoman Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 I have also been interested in either an Crusader or an A-7 corsair II. I had read a while ago that Razbam was working on the A-7 but paused to work on other projects. So it seems like we might be getting an an A-7 before an F-8. In the mean time you can fly your own F-8 Crusader in the form of an RC EDF. This electric 64mm EDF was just released last month.

A North Korean map would be a great new map to have not only to recreate the Korean war era missions with the F-86, Mig-15 and Mig -21 but it would also be a hot seller among those that would be interested in what if scenarios in a modern setting. ;)
