how is everyone dealing with clickable cockpit in VR?

I wish the cursor would stay where you left it as you would in the hangar menu..

I find it annoying to use in game because the cursor trails your vision amd when you make small head movements its like fighting the cursor for a precise placement on the in game button

Agreed, that is a major pain in the ass...I've been hoping for a checkbox option in the Settings from ED to disable it tracking with my HMD.

YESSSS THIS IS SOOOO NEEDED.

not only a check box option, but in game, add a centering command if this was to be implemented so that say you left the mouse cursor behind you, centering puts the cursor back in front of you

M570 trackball for me which is semi-permanently velcroed to a mini pull out hinged table I added to my handmade table (an old school woodwork table), Viacom too which is invaluable, everything else I need is on my Warthog.

Oh wow thanks! I am really feeling this trackball idea. can't believe this didn't come to mind before.

Logitech Trackman Marble to the rescue for me when flying.

I was thinking of getting something like the Elecom Wireless Trackball for Left-Handed and try that out, or something similar to it.

I just use the mouse, Hotas and two button boxes. Mouse is really only used for secondary stuff. Everything I need to fly and use for combat, I have on Hotas and button boxes. All muscle memory, mouse too. Always know where buttons and mouse are.

I have tried using the mouse on my left, but muscle memory is strong, so I always grab air on the right :)

I’ve been considering a button box or two. Please share some info regarding what you use and how you use it (or them). Also a picture or link to the boxes would be handy. Thanks.

Well, they are by 'our own' Derek Speare (post #30 in this thread).

I use the P2 (the one without the big red button)

http://www.derekspearedesigns.com/p1p2.html

And some old box way back when Derek started making/selling button boxes, that has 9 large push buttons in 2 rows, (similar to the red ones on P2), 6 smaller push buttons in one row, and 1 covered 2 way momentary). So 3 rows in total.

I have mounted them infront of my throttle, so they are basicly within fingers reach, almost.

What they are used for depends on the plane/module, but radar and weapons primarily.

Im even considering getting the Thrusmaster MFD's. Kinda waiting on how MFD button intensive the F-18 will be. Im quite sure I can handle those in the blind too. Is amazing what we humans can manage after just a bit practice :)

Important thing is that the button boxes are in the same place, always. I use an old race frame, so everything is mounted, and therefor in the same place, always.

The only problem is, when hopping between modules a lot. Not everything makes sense to have in the same way, cause they might have very different native functionality, and not support for example rotaries. Then it becomes a little tricky to remember what is where.

I've looked at the P1/P2 box before but was disappointed with the lack of three way toggles. I've discovered the FLT1/FLT2 as well, and they have three way switches, but the toggles just fit better for military aircraft.

Also how do you use the rotaries? Can you set them to do things such as uncage SAI, change altimeter pressure?

And can you use them for rotary switches such as radio and TACAN knobs?

Hmm...I have already just used my mouse, but reading this thread I am starting to wonder if I should add a trackball next to my throttle on my left side? I hate having to take my hand off the stick to use the mouse (mouse is on my right side), so the wire trackball mounted next to my throttle on the left might be a great solution...

Yah, I've got a left handed wireless TrackBall sticky/velcro'd adjacent to my collective.

See the rotaries as two way switches. Clock wise is up presses, counter clockwise is down presses. So anything that supports that, CW, CCW, Next, Previous, Up, Down etc, you can assign the rotaries to.

Ordered this guy today, will put it to the left of my throttle on my Wheel Stand Pro...just need to get my hands on a larger plate for the throttle to be mounted so that that they both fit. Should be solid since I will be able to left click, right click, and use the scroll function...without having to have a larger left handed mouse affixed to the plate.

This looks like a good solution, but if I am not mistaken, you still have to move the mouse to get the mouse movement registered? So your plan is to use it just for the click and scrolls, but rely on a regular mouse or head movement to actually move the mouse cursor?

It's a touchpad, like on a laptop, so the mouse itself never moves...it's stationary.

EDIT: OH SHIT! It does have to move, I just misunderstood it. Looks like I'll be sending it back lmao.

Yep, I thought so ... because I myself made the SAME mistake when looking for a second portable touchpad! It really is deceptive or, at least, confusing, calling it a "touchpad mouse" :)

if you are ready to shell out $80, then the Logitech one would be my choice based on online reviews (I've never had one myself), or the good old Apple. I have the latter, and it is still going strong after several years. But the Logitech one has dedicated buttons which I think might be nice if it holds up to the Apple in the precision/sensitivity/reliability dept.

Now I'm in a pickle...I can't decide what I would prefer between the little touchpad mouse I've already ordered or a larger truly stationary touchpad. Technically I am going to take the mounting plate for my throttle on my WSP (below) and mount a larger plate (extended out to the left) on top of it for my throttle and the mouse to sit on...so I could make the new plate large enough to have plenty of space to make slight correcting movements with the mouse I've already ordered.

I think moving the mouse around is just too fiddly a proposition, especially in VR. You want to know exactly where it is without looking at all times. I think a full touchpad on your thigh would work best if you can take your hand off the throttle and find it again blind (which is what you would do in RL for the manipulations that require you to use the mouse anyway, e.g., flipping switches etc.) or a trackball strapped to the throttle as you originally proposed and what I do.

Of course, in this day and age of mail ordering and easy/free returns, you could just try both out and see what you prefer and return the other!

Now THAT might be the winning idea. Not a huge fan of having to strap something to my damn leg every time I fly, but I guess it isn't that big a deal...and a hell of a lot easier than trying to rig together a new throttle/mouse plate for my Wheel Stand Pro.

I replaced the Logitech Touch Pad with the left handed TrackBall that HoBBis showed in post#29. They're Velcro'd to my collective base so barely have to move my hand to get there.

I found that the TrackBall was quicker and more accurate moving across my 65" monitor.

Beware, if you run a ButtKicker and attach the roller ball to your frame cuz the cursor "migrates". This makes flicking a small toggle switch interesting sometimes. No problem with the Jet Seat.

Cancelled the order on the touch mouse from earlier, was lucky enough to catch it before it shipped.

Now I'm thinking about getting the below (an actual touchpad haha)...is this what you had before? And you now prefer the LH trackball mouse?

This one. Good product. Looks like a smaller footprint than the one you showed.
