global cockpit illumination helps make the cockpit a bit less dark but just so you guys know maybe it needs some tweaking because the text on the MFCDs and on all the A-10C's panels and CDU screen is still very thick and blotted.

*Look specifically at the blotted text in the highlighted areas in the 2nd picture!*

edit: not tryna criticize or be ungrateful or anything...just trying to give constructive criticism since it is OB

I noticed this too in VR. The A10 cockpit is still a bit dark and this is how it was in 2.2 with deferred shading on. With the normal VR setting and global cockpit illumination on, I do notice some blur on the mfcd and dial writing. I think I will keep it off.

Right now everything I have is on high except shadows medium and terrain shadows flat. Msaa off and AAS x16. Pixel density 1.8. Seems to be kind of smooth. For reference my specs are i7 8700k, 32gb ddr4 @3000 and 1080ti.

I have same results as you guys when playing A10 with Deffered Shading (DS) ON. But I noticed few more differences between DS on and off. Global Illumination was off.

With DS ON your NVG changes, flood light is not working and when firing the gun your smoke looks better. Same dark cockpit. mfds looks brighter.

With DS OFF NVG looks as in 1.5.8, flood light is working, gun smoke changes and I have feeling that new explosions are no more woking. When DS is OFF it looks to me like I am playing 1.5.8 version.

Yea the A10 has a very familiar look with DS off. Probably since that's how I remember it from 1.5.

I notice with tree density all the way up it's harder to make out targets on the ground. It looks way better in terms of terrain details. But I keep failing the maple flag advanced qualification for unguided bombs because I can never find the remaining targets after I killed a few.

It's as if they need to tone deferred shading lighting a bit because even with a gamma of 1.8 or 1.6 the cockpit is still quite dark.

can we plz have this issue fixed before release on main dcs world version...i wanna have deferred shading on for nice outside world, but i want the cockpit inside to look normal (which is does but with DS off which makes trees look like crap) and not be all dark and blurry

What is re shade 3.0?

If something can be done with reshading, I think ED can do something too.

In another post I was asking for a new a-10c cockpit for 2.5, but I can see that a too dark cockpit is also a av-8b problem, so maybe we do not need a new cockpit but just a tuning of shadows / visual for the existing one...

Same here (Rift user), love the look of the terrain with DS on and Gamma at about 1.4, but the contrast between the terrain and the cockpit is way too much, even with global cockpit illumination on.

For example, to my eye in Georgia at 8pm on June 1st with the Gamma set to 1.4 and global cockpit illumination on, the world outside is as bright as I would expect it to be at midday but the cockpit lighting in the KA-50 just light enough to make out most of the labeling over the switches.

Thanks. So, you have no framerate issues with using DS together with MSAA 4x at 4K?

No i have zero FPS problems, may be that i am using a 1080Ti and a Nvme 1TB SSD though.

Dont have a slower machine to test on though

And what about HDR? Why it is not working with Deferred Shading? Why I can watch sun all day with DS and have no issues after with looking at dark cockpit? :)

Yeah doesen't bother me that much or at least it's not like I can't wait because early morning or late evening happen to be my favorite times to fly anyway (love night time too) but it is nasty to look at at times.

In some situations on my one side the trees/forests look blooming fantastic and on the other they look utterly horrific I cant bear to look at them lol! Mission editor is my best friend at the moment.

Out in the desert too the trees or little green shrubs also look very bad. However if I fly at the right time, I have never seen a better looking flightsim and it look's very realistic and convincing. Luckily though I don't fly complex modules such as the Warthog in which darkness would seriously hinder things, a few VA commands and I am hot and ready for combat!

Must say however cant really fault the performance (I'm in VR) being able to actually use deferred shading now. MSSA x4 with no pixel density is my final preference very smooth on my rig.

Can ED please comment on this? The issue being that with deferred shading ON the cockpit becomes very blurry but outside world looks fine. And with the deferred shading OFF the cockpit looks good but outside world terrible

You'll never get a comment from ED on this. Been discussed in many threads here over the last few months, and we haven't even heard if ED are working on the issue, or even if they consider it to be something they are concerned about.

They are working on some of the lighting right now and it should be available next week in 2.5.1 beta. It also includes memory issues being addressed and it seems this includes the deferred lighting system. Once that's done they said they will work on porting over the cockpit lighting for the rest of the modules for night time. At least the hornet will come with working lighting for night time.

It is not only an issue for ED, but for the 3rd party developers...

For which planes we paid hard money.

FACT remains that most of the cockpits are barely usable at dusk / night

with DS on....

I personally have only seen night lighting being mentioned as being worked on by ED. That is not the issue we are discussing here. Have you seen any mention of this issue being worked on?

Not sure but this is from one of the posts in that Reddit thread. He mentions new deferred lighting system. Probably not specific to deferred shading but yes it would be great if they fixed it to perform the same as the game does without deferred shading. It has the biggest impact on performance especially in VR.

"For ground lighting, the greatly increased ground object count greatly limited our system RAM available overhead and we initially had to dial back ground light rendering range to account for this. With the new memory management we are working on, we have increased these ranges out again, and also increased overall brightness of these lights. Regarding the flood lights, that is rather an issue of adapting the cockpit flood lights to take advantage of the new deferred lighting systems. Updating these cockpits to use floodlights will return after we make the needed changes."

Yeah I think they're talking about something different

To fix this, it is gonna take a major core engine fix/overhaul most likely. Which means we won't probably see a useful night time flying environment for a very long time if ever. The upcoming fix after reviewing the preview shots does not address the issues. They just made the existing terrible ground lights brighter by a bit and then added glowing terrain to try and compensate but it looks wrong. This is not even bringing the moon/star/ambient light issues up that are adding to the issues currently. It just seems no one at ED ever really thought to try flying at night and as a result it never was on their radar to make work.

Call me ignorant, but I don't see why it would be so hard to just take the cockpit look from 1.5 and make the cockpits in 2.5 look the same without changing anything else...(in terms of terrain, explosions, etc)
