and you'll get to battle with the ECS system overheating as the blk I had the inefficient vent system, lol

There's no plans by ED to do a Super Hornet, so I dont know where that assumption the last few pages came from.

Even if there were, we'd be looking at something years out. Many years out.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

On Reddit ED responded to a Super Hornet request post with a “you never know” which set off speculation.

Yes, but my point is that’s the reason for the sudden burst of interest.

I wouldnt bet on a super hornet anyways. Thats a whole lot of work for something you -for the most part- already have in the F-18 module we currently have.

A Super Hornet would add a lot. Like I said, it's a great jet for simulating post-Tomcat carrier ops since all Tomcats were replaced by Block I Super Hornets. A Lot 25 would be a great boon for ED. And, it's a lot of work for many things that aren't in there (Like extended range, better avionics, etc)

That said maybe you guys should just keep the thread alive so that ED can pay attention. We all want a Super Hornet.

It would add a lot of... Drag... lol..
As far as LRIP/Blk I vs Lot 20 Legacy Bug, due to the transition of the Computers to HoL and the Drag index, it's actually less capable as several A2G Stores were removed from the LRIP/BLK I capability due to the drag index and the pylons.

Tomcats were rushed into retirement, and destroyed to avoid parts being sent to someone that needed them to keep theirs flying.
And to be fair, Everything was replaced by super hornets, not just Tomcats,
Legacy Hornets, Prowlers, Intruders and Vikings (well part of their mission), all lost their job to the Super Hornets as well.

One interesting thing that the Superbug would have over the Legacy are buddy stores. We're getting a tanker Herc eventually, and I believe that after they implement player-based AAR for it, they might look into making the Block I Superbug. Also, it'll be both a better ground pounder (less diverse ordnance, but more of things it does carry, plus the MWS doesn't hurt) and a more capable fighter, due to more powerful engines. It doesn't offer that much over what we have, but with AAR it would offer enough that it'd be worth it.

I have very good memories of an old F/A-18E Super Hornet sim (the Titus one, not Jane's). It had NAS Lemoore and carrier ops, and looked really good for its time, though it was ultimately its undoing since it outright refuses to run on anything newer than Windows XP. No buddy stores, but it had Mavs and a lot of other ordnance. Late 90s title, so that thing was a Block I, as it was the only one that existed at the time.

I believe the Lot 25 Hornets were 2005-era and so have pretty much the same weapons as the Lot 20. Plus A2A weapons are staying the same.

Yes, Iran needed Tomcat parts, and retirement came fast for the F-14.

Yes, all those other planes were replaced by Super Hornets. However, I said that the Block I ended in 2006, exactly the moment that the Tomcat was fully retired (2006 F-14D from VFA-31)

Same A2A, Minus Over Half of the A2G Stores due to Drag Index and Guidance Systems.

What were all of the things removed from the Super Hornet that were on the Legacy Hornet? I'd imagine those weapons are still not on even the Lot 37 Hornets coming into service today.

Yeah but at best, what features are you really going to get out of it? 2 extra fuel tanks, 2 extra pylons and doing exactly one more mission than the legacy version...and that mission is kind of dull and boring TBH. Theres a bigger difference between the A-10C and the CII than there is with the Blk 20 and 25 avionics wise.

ya know... I have to ask: If/When we get the Super Hornet... what will people think if it doesn't live up to the hype? I mean, the Tomcat had the hype from Topgun, and I'll bet the first time a lot of people tried the Maverick Trick they found the wings don't like that very much. The Super Hornet might have some things about it that doesn't quite match up to its hype... so I hope some of the fanboys are prepared for that.

Also... I have to ask... what would the Super Hornet offer that the existing Hornet doesn't already offer?

  • "The Super Hornet has more internal fuel!" Yes, but its engines drink fuel at a higher rate, and the weight means that it has roughly the same range as a legacy just with larger tanks.
  • "The Super Hornet has more hardpoints!" Two. That are each rated for 500lb weapons.
  • "The engines are more powerful!" Yes, but you're heavier, and as a result, your TWR is lower.

The only way I can currently see it selling... is if they sell it as a two-seater.

The Super Hornet has more efficient engines, what are you talking about. Plus, it has a 41% higher range. That's a lot.

The Super Hornet has 2 extra hardpoints, BOTH of which can carry the 800-pound AGM-88 missile.

Yes, but not by much.

And yes, the Lot 25 is what we are asking for from a 2-seater. The Lot 29 could work for a single-seater due to the disappearance of the ACS, but the 2-seater Lot 25 is what is really going to sell. They could sell the single and 2 seater Rhinos in the same package, and it would be pretty popular.

Eurofighter vs F/A-18F BVR fights could be the future of DCS World multiplayer. The Super Hornet's 12x AIM-120 capability gives us something good. The SPAMRAAM upgrade.

I actually talked to a Hornet Driver, and that rating came from them (And he flew the G)

I think he meant it could carry the Mk82 but not the Mk83. However, there are photos of AGM-88s being carried on the outboard pylons, like this EA-18G carrying the AGM-88 on the outboard pylons.

To be fair, the EA-18G outer wings are plumbed specifically for those HARMs. Pretty much all they do carry on those pylons..

Ive never seen nor heard of a SH carrying 12 AMRAAMs. Dont quote me on it, but dont htink those outboard pylons are authorized for dual racks.
