one thing most don't think about the WMR software scans your hardware and if you have an older CPU ,windows will refuse to go any farther in the installation and flat refuses to finish installation of WMR which forced me to return the odyssey + .funny thing is steam vr does the same tests of your hardware and my machine was found to be more than adequate,I wont build a new computer to run VR when I know full well mine is up to the task, I suspect some hanky panky is involved with windows and hardware manufacturers(intel).IMHO

I actually think there is a better solution . VR Lens Labs lenses in a frame sold on Ebay that clips into the rift . Thus the lenses stay with the headset , rather than your head :)

There is also lenses for the Odyssey:

https://widmovr.com/product/odyssey-prescription-lens-adapters/

I'm going to order them today after my eye exam. I always wear my contacts when using the Odyssey but sometimes it's tough because my eyes get dry.

I have a rift as well and prefer the readability and crispness of the Odyssey. Running high settings with PD of 2.0 sometimes and no issues, it's pretty smooth, no msaa.

Much better visual quality compared to the rift.

hmmm,,, that is of course assuming you have a Rift, but good idea just the same.

I am also trying to find good research regarding GPU upgrade, trying to figure out if I should goto 2080 ti Hybrid or will the 1080ti Hybrid be ok? Price is a serious consideration for the differences

I think a lot depends on the rig you are running it with.

I can tell you in my case:

I upgraded from 1080 Ti to 2080 Ti with a 4820K@4.5 GHz and DDR3 ram. Saw very little improvement fps wise, was able to up graphics settings some but performance did not improve.

Built this new rig about 3 weeks ago (specs in sig) and using the same 2080 Ti I saw a large improvement, way more than the GPU upgrade whilst I had the previous rig running.

Until new headsets come out that take advantage of the newer gpu's and dcs becomes more VR optimized, I think a 1080ti or 2080 should be enough for now.

Some say the CPU that can fully advantage a 2080ti in DCS does not exist yet .

OHHhhhhhh,,, thanks

I like these because I *knew* I was getting other HMDs. So I wanted something that's universal. There are other ones (same site) that fit the lens. But of course it's specific to the device. So I chose the goggles.

One thing...it sits close to your forehead. But a little foam glued to the goggle made it more comfortable.

So Fakum, how did the Rift work out for you? I am also looking at getting into the VR game.

Note to all this forum has had the best and most infromative responses and information.

At this point in time, if money is not an issue and you have a 2080ti, I would say Pimax 5K+ or 8K is the best available on the market due to FOV/resolution.

XTAL is also an option if you can pay 4,900 EUR.

HP Reverb and Valve Index are coming very soon so best choice would be to wait a month or two for the reviews of those.

I wouldn't recommend the Rift at this point because low resolution makes it hard to see anything. At least wait for the Rift S.

quick side question: may I ask what temps you are running on your 4820k?

I have a 4790k and run it at 4.4 wit a Corsair H100i and it frequently spikes over 80C, reaching even momentarily up to 99C occasionally (yeap, very bad temps)...

Thnx

Well it has been a while now since I ran the 4820k, but don't think my cores ever got much above 70c if I recall correctly.

Don, what temps are you getting with your 9900k at 5.1 GHz, ... you crazie :) That is a tough chip to cool down, even with an 8 x 140 mm radiator :)

Usually while gaming in the upper 60's, sometimes dips into the low 70's.

I do have Hyper Threading disabled, which helps some.

Using a Corsair H150i Pro.
