Again:

Me: "Wingman: Attack Air-Targets"

Him: "Negative"

 

10 seconds later, I already got two 3 bullets in my ass:

 

"Bandit, 11 o'clock."

 

My thoughts in this moment:

Oh really? You MEAN 6 o'clock from MY POV since 5 minutes?

Ok, am I doing something wrong or is it the wingman?

Can I expect, if I shoot on enemies, my wingman recognizes that? I think, yes :D

 

I think, if u are in a fight, ur wingman should be always in the state "There are enemies around" and never give the anwser "negative (I dont see enemies right now)"

 

wtf "negative"? Wingman, move ur head around and see what is happening.

 

"And please don't dont forget, what u saw 20 seconds ago. The enemy, u have reported, hasn't disappeared. He is still here anywhere, believe me..."

I have more succes if i give him the order to cover me. Otherwise I have only been able to get him to attack when he repported contacts. Goes for both Air as ground targets to my experience. Not much experience granted.

They shot me once with an AIM-120 close range..There were only 2 seconds between the lock warning and explosion.Before i enter the combat zone i tell him to "anchor here" at least 5 miles from the target area. Safer :smilewink:

Depending on the aircraft you’re flying, you often have to tell him to turn in his radar. Otherwise you get the response: “Unable”.

 

Wingnuts can be problematic but they’re not completely horrible. Often, their antics a best viewed with a bowl of popcorn on your lap.

But is there a reliable command sequence to get the AI fenced in and actually fighting?

I second turn radar on command. Otherwise they may only rely on visual. Cover me is great but they rarely stay close and often fly head on into an enemy group if one of them locks you from afar. For me cover me. And by air targets do you mean the command “engage bandits?”

Ok, so I dont seem to have a command to turn on radar, or at least I cant seem to find it in the tree ? I know it must be there... somewhere (any clues), what does seem to work is almost every other command, so If I tell him pincer left or right and then engage bandits he will, if I tell him engage primary targets and rejoin he will etc...

I have the impression (no evidence mind you) that it makes a difference if you order a formation change immediatly after take off. Could be placebo though.

I was airborne in the F-18 instant action 2 on 2 vs Mig 15, the wingman would not engage with Engage Bandits... I still have yet to find the turn radar on command within the radio tree structure, but using VA and Viacom worked to turn the radar on and then he would engage. he would also engage after a bracket left or right and engage primary targets and re-join, actually with the last one I didn't have to tell him to engage he was of like a greyhound...
