VR Shaders mod for better VR experience

2.7 version takes really long time to load.  About 10 minutes to get into the menu and then almost 20 minutes to get into cockpit of Viper or crashes.  I know my system is getting dated but Is this normal?

Hey @Taz1004, I normally only see this on the first load (sometimes two)  for an aircraft or map, but, ai assets also have an impact here as well. As best I can tell it’s all the shaders recompiling for those assets. I removed my entire saved games file for this upgrade made a huge difference m that could be just the fxo metashaders2 etc... but I wanted to be very sure none of my previous poking around was impacting things.

Hi all, I apologize I am a bit new but I have a question about the updated 2.7 mod. In the patch notes for the mod, it states:

- Removed the ENABLE_HMD_MASK & MASKSIZE settings as a correct mask is included in DCS now "

Is this why the 'circle' effect is no longer showing on the monitor mirror? I remember in the older versions of the mod the corners of the picture on the mirror would be black because the game wasn't rendering what the headset couldn't see. After installing this mod, I see the full picture on the mirror, including the corners, and I feel I have done something incorrectly. Should the render still be a circle like it always used to or is it OK now that I am seeing 100% of the render on the mirror? I attached a picture of the mirror and circled where the black sections used to be on the older mods.

Thanks in advance!

Screenshot 2021-04-29 012307.png

the mod no longer manages the mask, that is now part of 2.7 natively, 2.7 doesn’t display the mask in the menu.

Mine still has the corners in the PC mirror using OQ2, is there anything I can do? Frankly, it is no big deal for now.

It really shouldn’t are you still on 2.5.6 or using an earlier version of the mod? — wait do you mean whilst flying or in the menu as above?

I dunno. I am on V27 OB and I am using the “clear water” version.

After I upgraded to Hp Reverb G2 (from G1)  I noticed a huge hit in performance. Everything was smooth with G1 and I had no issue using this mod. There were several months between the g1 and g2 and I reinstalled the windows before using the g2..so the settings could be different. But as before I followed the instructions from www.vr4dcs.com and the Lukas s videos from yt.

Does the G2 require more resources than G1, or I am doing something wrong?

I use open beta (not the steam version)

The systems is:

i9 9900K (oc)

rtx 2080 Super

SSD, 32GB RAM

I also uploaded my dcs settings.

Thank you!

PS: I also get a lot of edges shimmering even with ALL settings on high. I am sure I didn t have this issue before.

Try dropping your steam setting from 150 to 100 ... 5he scale is different with the g2

PD in DCS is 0.5 and in steam vr is 500%

Also tried with 1.0 in dcs and 100% in vr..no difference. And not only the performance is bad...the visuals also are not pleasing at all.

So how do you suggest to set the pd? 100% in steam and 1.0 in dcs? Will give it another try but that was the starting point

just for your own sanity PD 1, and Steam 100...

PD 0.5 and Steam 500 is actually the same as PD 1 and steam 125...

Also the G2 is much more resource hungry than the g1, the g1's native resolution was  approximately 2000x 2000 per eye.  The G2 has the same physical resolution, but to cope with barrel distortion they increase that to approximately 3000 x 3000 per eye  so you are nearly doubling the number of pixels you are pushing just by going to 100%, if you are on a super rather than a TI you might want to experiment with Steam 70% -80% which will improve things  dramatically in terms of performance and still give you better visuals than the G1.

But this is way off thread... and you should create a separate one if you need more help

Long time I not use this mode and not remember how to install it

do I need only to use GSGME and put the folder on this path :

S:\DCS World OpenBeta?

As I remember i should delete some files from the MOD folders

Installation instructions are in the Readme.txt file, yes i would use OVGME or similar to manage the install of any mod.

Oh, if you are using the base mod, there are a number of graphical changes, an easy one is you essentially are limited to the effects of medium water, you can still select High but, you will get medium.

in general if it’s installed as per the instructions then it’s running, there is no key to see options in game or what have you.

Only way to know if its running is you look inside your mask and count frames, then compare a before and after.

How do I confirm that shaders are installed?

I have tried both with OVGME or directly in DCS fodler but Integrity Check on servers requiring passes successfully. If I understand correct it should give the red warning in MP screen.

You check your performance with a before/after result. Other than that, do a repair and it will show you if they've been replaced if you didnt uninstall it using OVGME

Sorry with this latest patch, do I have to reinstall it or wait for another version or is it working? I had some stutters yesterday but I don't know why.

not seeing this as a problem?

some people find that the baked in reflections that are native in the game are pretty strange... i normally turn them off or mod them if that option is not available
