That's like year old news ...

Not to mention apparently this isn't exactly a first; it supposedly happens often enough on F-16's and probably other aircraft too.

Ooh, don't mention anything bad about the F-22, it's the same like saying the F-16 will not own all on f-16.net...

Grow up, in that department at least.

I seem to remember this incident taking place and it being posted in here but, for the sake of this post being posted in vain, I dont recall the reason this guy could not get out of the aircraft.

So in short instead of making this a "Dude this is year old news thread" why dont we make it into a "Why was this guy stuck in a multi million dollar aircraft that should have been designed to allow the pilot to escape the aircraft no matter what happens" ...... thread.

So why was this guy stuck? And what did they do to fix the problem? Thats what I would like to know. Most , if not all , fighter aircraft have some sort of emergency jettison for the canopy ... why the didnt use that instead I dont know?

Because that uses explosives and would have likely damaged the aircraft more. So I would guess.

This canopy configuration is apparently prone to such incidents, and there's nothing that -can- be done to fix it, at least nothing I'm aware of. It's just gonna happen every now and then.

And yeah, it -is- old news, and the 'why he couldn't get out' is rather pointless. He got trapped, he got pulled out, and wether anything was done, who knows. Maybe in a few weeks someone who flies these things will let us know.

He has an oxygen mask :P (not that it would work without external power, but he had one). Sanded modelling kit plastic smalls terrible (and has this toxic flavour to it), can't imagine the pilot not throwing up. But yeah, with everything on that thing starting from the value of an average car, they better cut it open than jettisoning the thing. Guess the pilot was worried about his career as well in those six hours. At lease we won't have those 'yeah, the F-16, errm 22 canopy is 3 inches thick' kind of threads.

See that cute ACESII+ soft pack, that is so cool. I love soft packed chutes, makes it look friendly, and not as cold as the later Mb models and the K-36.

Yeah, the pilot has a oxygen mask. But compare it to the biohazard suits of the guys outside ^^

They're Flame/Heat suits that US military fire fighters wear for fighting aircraft fires.
