FireCat Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Well here's a finished (for now) photo. Maybe it's my imagination, but I'm having an issue getting the monitor level. The bubble level says it's great; my imagination says otherwise. ;) Hopefully I can get started with PointCTRL tomorrow. I haven't flown in almost two weeks, having been working on this cockpit that long (and sweating myself silly doing it in North Carolina heat!). I would normally wait for cooler weather to do something like this, but I'm due for another knee surgery next month and wanted to get this done before then. That is one wicked office I am green with envy and admiration. Regarding the level of the monitor just a point to note. Check things in peripheral vision that includes behind the monitor (straight ahead of you) we think buildings floors, walls, ceilings etc are all level and plumb but they do move and over time buildings settle in. It only takes a horizontal line from another source (i:e where the wall and ceiling meet) that you are not focused on but in your, LOS to create the illusion the monitor is not level when its the other source even something close like the horizontal edges of the keyboard table. Just some thoughts to eliminate as a cause. I don't think that was a beer can in the cup holder although that would normally be the reason my monitor would look skew-whiff. Again great office.

jameslockridge Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Well here's a finished (for now) photo. Maybe it's my imagination, but I'm having an issue getting the monitor level. The bubble level says it's great; my imagination says otherwise. ;) So, a list of what you see: 1. 42" Insignia TV, 1080p. Used it with the Obutto and see no reason to upgrade. 2. Bose computer speakers (L/R only, no fancy setup) 3. TrackIR5. Still used if I fly without VR, or in BMS. 4. Thrustmaster TPR pedals. I just got them last week and haven't flown with them yet. I used to use the Saitek Combat Pedals. 5. Logitech G513 Carbon w/GX Blue switches. I'm a keyboard nut, and this may be my last one. Love it. The keyboard tray is attached to the old Obutto rotating mount. The mousepad is a XXXL mousepad from Amazon that covers the whole tray, about 37x15". 6. Logitech G600 mouse. I use the side buttons for cut/copy/paste/home/end/task view, etc. 7. RealSimulator FSSB R3 with Warthog grip. 8. (covered up next to trash can) another Warthog grip that has a 15 degree offset tailpiece adapter installed (not needed if I use an extension, though), and VPC T-50CM2 grip. Waiting on VPC WarBRD grip and VFX F-14 grip. 9. VPC WarBRD base with 10cm extension and TM F/A-18C grip. The joystick stand is built on a toilet flange and 3" PVC pipe. I took some extra fabric left over from the chair and covered the flange with it. 10. Passenger seat from a 1995 Mustang, $30 at the junkyard, and a $24 seat cover set from Amazon (came with 4 covers). The seatbelt loop I left on as a handy place to hang 11. Oculus Rift S. 12. iPad Mini 4 with a OneTigris slip cover in Multicam. The Lightning cable is ran to a charging port on my USB hub (located behind the seat) 13. VPC T-50 throttle. The new T-50CM throttle is on order. I cannibalized the F/A-18C comm and TDC knobs from an old Thrustmaster TWCS and hot-glued them on the switches on the VPC throttle. 14. Warthog throttle, hidden inside the left console when not in use. I can unmount the VPC throttle easily when I want to switch. The WH throttle has the DeltaSim TDC upgrade. 15. A cheap volume control USB knob I got off Amazon, since the keyboard lacks a dedicated volume control, and I hate using the FN key to do so. 16. The other cannibalized Obutto part, the cupholder. 17. Two wireless trackballs, one righty and one lefty, from Elecom, via Amazon. 18. My six-year old Falcon NW Mach V. Due to be replaced next year, hopefully. I wouldn't be able to afford it, but it's within reach due to unfortunate reasons (VA disability). You can also see hints of my Braves bobblehead collection and USAF headgear. The cockpit surfaces that are gray are outdoor carpet from Lowes that was $0.50/sq ft, and have a bonus of sticking to Velcro. I plan on covering the side console with some of my patches (48FW being the big one). Whew! Distraction over, Miles! ;) Hopefully I can get started with PointCTRL tomorrow. I haven't flown in almost two weeks, having been working on this cockpit that long (and sweating myself silly doing it in North Carolina heat!). I would normally wait for cooler weather to do something like this, but I'm due for another knee surgery next month and wanted to get this done before then. That is an excellent pit thank you for sharing. I'm looking for what I will do down the road and this looks like something I could do myself. WELL DONE

mr_mojo97 Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 (edited) Ok, got mine yesterday, quick delivery. Findings so far. Excellent product, nice and light, does not feel awkward or clumsy to use with Warthog joystick and throttle. The following may be just because I've not used all the calibration tools: When neither of the FCU crosses are not visible I notice the mouse cursor is visible (annoyingly so) in the upper right hand corner Took a while to get used to the calibration. Still can't get it really accurate though but workable, How do you know you guys tell you're pointing accuratly at the cross when you can't see your arms? Oculus Rift S message - Your device can't track your headset because there is insufficient light - HMD covering sensor issue? Seems like it's the ways to go with VR anyways and it's really quite immersive. With Miles latest procedure I got it fairly close and then used Edge calibration to refine. The following may be just because I've not used all the calibration tools: When neither of the FCU crosses are not visible I notice the mouse cursor is visible (annoyingly so) in the upper right hand corner Like Clutter said, it goes there to time out so its not in the middle of the screen, However it should not be visible in VR. The next update, I will try positioning in a different location to ensure it is out of site. Took a while to get used to the calibration. Still can't get it really accurate though but workable, How do you know you guys tell you're pointing accuratly at the cross when you can't see your arms? Its all about your perception and what feels right yo you. Its kind of the point (no pun intended) of PointCTRL to naturally reach out for a control and have the cursor be where you feel your hand is. I spend a lot of time demonstrating this here , I hope it helps Rift S message - Your device can't track your headset because there is insufficient light - HMD covering sensor issue? I never could find a good answer on this. I had originally saw documentation stating the upper camera was for overhead tracking of the touch controllers only. I have since been unable to locate that again. I have tested blocked and unblocked quite a bit and did not notice any difference in tracking. While I hate to assume anything, but it's a reasonable, somewhat educated, but still meaningless guess that the upper camera is not used for head tracking, mainly because it would usually only see a featureless white ceiling without any unique pixels to track. But i'm still just guessing, If anyone else has more info or insight please share. In the future I will do a flat face mount that wont block the upper camera. Seems like it's the ways to go with VR anyways and it's really quite immersive. Good show, Miles Thanks Mr Mojo for the good actionable feedback and observations, its still a WIP, and it will get better. mr_mojo97 Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 Cheers for the answers all. Yeah, I don’t have any issues with the tracking even with the warning message. Not tried with the touch controllers though (not hat I’ll be using them in DCS anymore). The guardian reset thing seemed to coincide with the right touch controller ‘ghost’ low battery issue. pgh2atl Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 Got my shipping notification last night & very excited my PointCRTL is shipping out here today. I got to thinking about my VR setup & the use of these. I have a Pimax 5K+ & the old Valve Base station (1.0). One issue I have with the 'old' base station is that once its on it blocks other IR devices from working. I have a Logitech Harmony Hub in my gaming area & it does not work when the base station is in operation. So it got me to thinking........does PointCRTL work off of IR & will the base station interfere with its operation? Is anyone currently using the old Valve base station & using PointCRTL successfully? I've been thinking of upgrading to a 2.0 base station as its doesnt interfere with IR devices like the 1.0 so now may be as good of a time as any to get me off the fence of doing so. My apologies if this has already been answered. 162 pages is a lot of content to read through. :book:
