draconus Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 I don't get why it got modeled for 2018 and not 90s while most modern aircraft we have available now are 90s-2000 at most. Caucasus seems fine in that regard. Back in the sim days when we had a few bricks for the city (or just a texture on the ground) I dreamed of flying the jet between full fidelity skyscrapers. Now that we have all this possible it seems like no fun at all. I appreciate all the procedures, take off & landing, contacting ATC, enjoying PFM, following mission orders and weapon delivery a lot more now. How do you feel RTB from '91 Desert Storm OPs and almost crash into Burj Khalifa? All of this modern Dubai and new fancy buildings are just major turn off for me. These are distractions from what's important (as CS in DCS). So am I alone in that? Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Gierasimov Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 I am sure you are not alone. However, I don't agree with you at all. I think it was the best decision for this map to focus on a modern day. Hornet is modelled to 2005 as well so not limited to years you said. Anyway, for me, a turn off is '91 Desert Storm as nor Iraq neither Kuwait is part of the Persian Gulf terrain in DCS. It's pretty much like pretending that the Caucasus is Vietnam. Silver_Dragon Posted October 29, 2018 Posted October 29, 2018 The original plan of Persian Gulf previously "Hormuz Straight" map was from 2015. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129972 Intent "simulate" or based on the 2012 crisis on the strait with iran threat of close them with mines. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011%E2%80%9312_Strait_of_Hormuz_dispute The 91 desert ops was outside of the actual map plans limits and will require build all irak terrain and part of north Saudi arabia, Qatar and Bahreim. A huge map with a great quantity of objects. Remember the EDGE technology was very early on 2015 and need testing with a "real" map. The actual Persian Gulf theatre was "expanded" during the develop and only has centred on UAE, Oman and South Iran. Can be see a 91 or "actual" irak theatre to simulate a "Gulf War 1/2"? yes, has possibilities in a future but remember all depend of the future EDGE and DCS updates and upgrades. draconus Posted October 29, 2018 Author Posted October 29, 2018 Now that info explains a lot. Thank you. Of course Desert Storm is a huge mistake on my part although it was merely an example of what took place "over there" :) I guess I hoped more for the cold war era whole Persian Gulf terrain. S D Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 You can always just remove any landmark buildings with small trigger zones. thats what i plan to do for any 80/90's based missions. You can infact remove all of downtown Dubai, but it takes a good 10/15 minutes even on a good system to load in.
Tobi1304 Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 On a 1990‘s version of that map, Dubai would be about 1/4 or 1/5th of the size it has in the actual map. :) vCVW-17 / VF-74
metzger Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I was also asking myself this question. DCS lacks a proper war theatre, PG map looks more like you will simulate fly Emirates airlines landing at Dubai rather than a countries in war with some destruction. Burning Bridges Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 can the building be disabled from special options? I have also reservations about the map because of the skyscrapers. Dubai is pretty much the antithesis of what I consider beautiful urban development, it's like flying over disneyland in the desert, tasteless and offensive.

Plus there is the performance hit . I can maintain vsync with a decent amount of headroom low over Vegas , but can't even maintain vsync low over Dubai . 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2

Holton181 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I've said it before, the Emirates has a lot of promotional capital, like Las Vegas in Nevada. If so time consuming and most likely expensive to develop a map for DCS, why put your valuable resources on a training area like the one in Nevada (iconic but still)? And added to that putting Las Vegas on the cover and in all promotional videos. Almost the same goes for the PG map. Maybe a much more authentic area for real conflicts, but with a modern day focus?? (Consider the Normandy, a map focused on a very specific time in history, not even possible to change the season to winter) And again, modern day Dubai on the cover and in all promotional videos. Now consider how much money is put on daring Read Bull stunt performances and the like in both Las Vegas and Dubai. Those places know how to catch the attention of the world, in sometimes very creative ways. I would not be the slightest surprised if ED have got some of that capital. Nothing wrong with it though. ED and DCS might represent a too small of a niche market to afford the development without some help. (a side note: Normandy is an outside project eventually taken under the care of ED, and by some considered not that very well done, maybe due to not getting enough attention from the developers. If above conspiracy theory is correct, that actually leaving us with only one genuine ED map, Caucasus) Helicopters and Viggen DCS 1.5.7 and OpenBeta Win7 Pro 64bit i7-3820 3.60GHz P9X79 Pro 32GB GTX 670 2GB VG278H + a Dell PFT Lynx TrackIR 5
