Viggen would be the best there, generally. The HUD is weird but they reportedly made the plane with the human being in mind as much as possible. Much easier to learn than the modern planes that you have.

If the HUD appears bugged you're probably just in a wrong mode or wrong viewing angle. Check the threads if you have a problem, it's also a quite popular module so help is not far away!

Or you could try a helicopter to really expand your experience. Huey would be my first pick unless you want something really different and exhilarating which might be the gazelle.

The Harrier, not fully finished I know, but it`s extremely versatile in A2G role and of course has VTOL. The Viggen is great, but a totally different animal and produced to a very high standard by HB. Both are worth it (especially on sale) and should be in your collection at some point. Oh, I also like the M2000C, but I need to put some time into it. The F/A-18 is proving such a great aircraft, it`s taking much of my attention.

I love the Viggen, it's one of the most fun modules to fly not to mention the fact that it's probarly the module with highest standard until the F14 is released, also by Heatblur.

I would like the Harrier but I refuse to buy something from a creater who keeps their modules in Alpha or unreleased stage for ever.

My vote is for the Viggen, it is being updated still and it's amazing. :smilewink:

The thing I like the most of the M2000 is the excellent set of training missions, set not only on Caucasus, but also on Nevada, and the very good quality free campaign that it includes .. made by Baltic Dragon it starts where the training left off (a very nice approach).

It is a really nice aircraft, and you can’t go wrong with it, specially at sale price :)

During this sale I am also trying to figure out which modules to buy next for DCS. I want to buy two additional modules and the first one is probably going to be the Nevada map, because it is nothing new for me to learn, just some nice additional content. The second module should be something that is not similar to the F18 or the F14, which I already own.

Now please correct me if I am wrong, but based on reviews and videos I have collected the following short informations about the modules that I am mostly interested in at the moment:

  • MiG-21: This is the only Russian high-fidelity aircraft in DCS and it offers quite a challange. I have already flown the Su-33 and I liked the absence of fly-by-wire, which makes the aircraft more shaking and challenging. Since I like this behavior, I believe the MiG-21 might be a good choice for me.
  • Viggen AJS-37: This is mostly an air-to-ground aircraft, which is able to fly very low to avoid SAMs until it unleashes its deadly load on ground targets. Because of this it reminds me of the Tornado fighter, which I really like. In addition the air-to-ground radar seems to be quite interesting.
  • Mirage M-2000: Used by many nations in the Near East it fits quite well to the Persia Map (which I already own). It seems to be interesting in air-to-air combats and you have to learn how to correctly use its missiles. In the cockpit its front looks a little bit narrow, but its engines at the side are looking very badass from the cockpit view.
  • Black Shark Ka-50: Very easy to fly, but it is hard to use its weapons. I am not sure if this is good or bad, but anyway I feel like I should own at least one helicopter, because sometimes I like to fly slow and also I want to make more use of my pedals. Other helicopters may have more interesting flight behaviors than the Ka-50, but I have read that the Ka-50 is going to get a better cockpit, which is something that I did not read about other helo modules in DCS. So maybe now it is a good time to buy it, unless ED is planning to publish a totally new helicopter in the near future (which does not seem to be the case).

Currently I am tending to buy the Viggen, but I would be also glad to hear different opinions.

The Mirage is a very nice purchase ... these are the training missions I was taking about:

It and the Gazelle are the only DCS aircrafts that offer training on more than one Map; and the included Campaign is also top notch.

RUDEL where in the world did you get a P-38D Module!!?? The p-38 is one of my favorite planes! I've never seen it for sale.

It is a Mod by Markindel and Hawkeye60, that was removed from this Forum a short while ago because they couldnt demonstrate that the 3D model was actually theirs.

It is AI only, I use it for adding eye candy to some of my WW2 missions, it looks like this:

Unfortunately, today's update broke it and for some reason I cant use it anymore .. I took these screenshots on my Steam's DCS, that is a previous version.

Best regards

Edit: I disabled my other mods and found that the P38 does work (as AI aircraft) on 2.5.4 ... must have been a conflict with another Mod :)

It`s not the finished article, but it has great versatility in A2G in it`s current state. Can lase targets for itself or others for GBU`s/AGM`s etc. and SEAD, plus the usual ground pounding & A2A stuff. Add VTOL & carrier ops, I think it`s one of the best modules even as is,and well worth the sale price.

Depends what you have already. If you have the F/A-18 then I`d go with the Viggen, as the Hornet can do all that the Mirage can, and more. But if you are like me then you just go on a spending spree during these sales. The Viggen is it`s own unique experience and very high quality, the MiG 21 is another great HB module and well worth the $25, but is a different vintage and lacks the versatility of the other two. I have the Ka-50 but haven`t used it yet much, but again a very different animal that has a lot going on.

All save mirage would be very interesting and good choices for you. The Mig-21 might be a bit tricky to fly and helicopters of course are entirely different. The Ka-50 will get a new cockpit because it's a very old one and some people claim it has issues (haven't noticed anything besides some indicator lights myself). Gazelle and Huey are easier for the systems, Huey is more of a challenge if you want to do a cold start. Also these helicopters are fairly easy to fly - the gazelle is like a sports car and is a very lively platform.

Thanks for your replies! So I think I will either take the Viggen or the Mirage (in addition to Nevada). This will be a hard decision though, because both aircraft look like a lot of fun.

If you are getting Nevada and go with the Mirage, definately get the red flag campaign for it, it's awesome!

I was almost about to buy the Viggen now, but probably I should also make my decision dependent on the availability of good campaigns. :D There are Red Flag campaigns for the Viggen as well, but it does not have a very good review. So if the campaigns for the Mirage are much better, then I will buy the M-2000 instead.

One thing about the mirage, and maybe it's been fixed, is the bombing doesn't seem to be very accurate. I like A2G myself so that kind of turned me off a bit.

I don't buy from DCS store for so long. Are the bonuses applicable for winter sale purchasing?

No, the bonus can only be used to purchase items that are not on discount. I used mine to save 3 bucks on the latest P51 Campaign :)

I just bought the Mirage, because I am more interested in Air-to-Air Combat. Like the Hornet it has a fly-by-wire-system, but other than that it really gives me a nice different experience. And I got to say the French voices in the tutorials sound hilarious. You got to love French! :megalol:

Besides the Nevada map and the Red Flag campaign I also decided to buy the Ka-50. So I have spent much more than I orginally intended, but I think it should be worth it in case there will be a price hike after its cockpit get overhauled. But even in the current state the cockpit is still decent. I had no serious problems with it.
