OT: Su-30s at rainy Waddington(UK)

I think it was the first visit of the MKI?

Very cool pictures.

I guess typhoons and mki’s have tested their lock-on capabilities on each other.

Thanks for the comments. It was a lousy day to be out in... it rained nearly all day. But how often do you get to see any Flankers in the UK, let alone three flying? Ok, it was only a simple takeoff/flypast/landing (the Indians don't have permission to do anything else, and the weather was too rough for the refuelling demo), but there's poetry in anything those aircraft do, so that's fine by me! :-)

There are plenty more shots here...

I'm particularly impressed by this guy's work...

The grey paintwork isn't the most exciting colour scheme in the world, but somehow it looked absolutely perfect under the grey, threatening skies. And, unloaded for long distance flight, the aircraft did look particularly beautiful. So it was well worth the trip.

In fact I nearly got up very early on Sunday to go again. But I'd have been disappointed at the end of my five hour journey north. The Sunday airshow was cancelled at about 9am because the car parking areas were totally waterlogged, and also because (so I'm led to believe) the Police had to withdraw most of their people to cope with emergency flooding in the Lincoln area.

There was also some speculation that the recent terrorist attacks in the UK (particularly the one on Saturday at Glasgow) might have had something to do with the cancelltion, but I think the weather conditions were bad enough to justify the cancellation all on their own.

Ironically, although the ground was very treacherous, for most of Sunday the weather up there was pretty good after early downpours.

Anyway, the Su-30s are still supposed to be turning up at RIAT for the 14th/15th July. Again they won't be doing anything special, but a flying Flanker is a flying Flanker! I also see now that there's a Czech Gripen and a Hind flying as well. Some amateurs from the USA will be also there, apparently. Thunderbugs... Thundercats... something like that, flying some silly little single engined F-16s.

Still, they'll do to fill some dead airspace I suppose. ;-)

Even with a Grey background those Su30's look cool  .

Grey schemes ar the most aestetical pleasing to me. Those Su-30's are indeed the best of the best of russian origin, even if many of the equipment inside is made in Israel/France/india.
