Alfa Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I thought it would be a good idea with a thread dedicated to reference material for 3D modelling. When posting material: * please consider whether photos are useful for modelling purposes - i.e. preferably close-ups that show varies details of an aircraft(ship, vehicule, structure) rather than images of "scenic" nature. * please post images/plans either as thumbnails or direct links instead of using image tags(full scale). If you found the images/plans on a website(i.e. not your own), then please make sure that the way you link to them is in accordance with the policies of the website in question - this sometimes means linking to the website as such and not directly to individual files. 1 JJ
SuperKungFu Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I posted this in the past, but this is the best layout site I've found http://www.airwar.ru/other/drawe.html If you want some good close up (real pictures) of an aircraft, i would visit http://www.b-domke.de/aircraft_in_detail.html And also http://www.airliners.net/ This might be useful for damage model, it would be interesting to see some of the cutaway objects within a model http://www.flightglobal.com/StaticPages/cutaways.html And here's another site http://www.the-blueprints.com/index.php?blueprints/modernplanes/modern-c/ I believe the last 2 sites were found by sp0nge so the credit goes to him If you need help in modeling, i believe these sites would give you some tips http://forums.netwings.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2358 http://www.military-meshes.com/forums/index.php http://www.lockon-models.com/index.php?act=idx http://www.planesimulation.com/gmax2.htm 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Alfa Posted July 1, 2007 Author Posted July 1, 2007 Yup good stuff :) Here is a link to another excellent site with great walkarounds: http://scalemodels.ru/ The site is in Russian, but clicking the Union Jack banner will translate the pages to English - well it is an online translation, but it helps to navigate the site for the non-Russian speaker. - JJ. Alfa Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 NP. I just went back and edited that first post to give a description. Just the sort of thing I had in mind - it is nice to have a little background info :) . I encourage the use of thumbnails on my site too, just to accomodate some of our members with slower connections and smaller screens. Thumbnails are nice because they automatically scale themselves to fit whatever size screen people view them on and nobody has to deal with the annoyance of having to scroll from side to side to read the threads. Yup and they are especially useful for "walkarounds" - partially due simply to the number of images involved and partially because you get an instant idea of what image to open when you are looking for a particular detail.....even with my limited modelling experince, I quickly realised that organising my photo albums this way was time well spent :) . I'll bring those others over too in the next few days. :) Goodie! :) . JJ

59th_LeFty Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 S! Many-many-many useful links there! It's a real great topic, not only for 3D stuff. :helpsmilie:However I need your help. As see there are some people maybe desperate enough (not like me) to have a MiG-29 cockpit design. I almost downloaded the whole internet to my PC, but I can't find more than photos. I hope its my fault, and someone can drop me a cockpit blueprint. To be clear, I dont need one like this but a real one with sizes. Actually, it would be for a 1:1 cockpit mockup. I know its some weird stuff to be found on the web, but I make it sure :) (Maybe I'll finish sooner if I get in the airbase 2km away and bring a tape-measure and some paper with me...) Thank you in anticipation!
