Hey guys, so I noticed that when I looked around in the DCS folders, the new Su-34 AI model was placed under the CoreMods path. Now normally, AI would never get this. The only aircraft (with the exception of the MQ-9, but it has no model files there) in CoreMods are only modules of DCS.

Usually, AI models go under the Bazar/World/Shapes path, but it struck me odd that they chose this instead. Could this be pointing to a future module? Not trying to have my hopes up too high on this one. :pilotfly:

Yeah I very much doubt it, ED can't even do a full fidelity Su-24 or Su-27SM (so I hear), and they did say they would ultimately replace older AI models - which I think should be a priority, get rid of the outdated models aircraft, ground vehicles and ships and replace them with new models.

I mean things like the Tu-95 (and Tu-142), Tu-160, B-1B, B-52, Su-17M4, MiG-27 all have super all old looking models that are in dire need of replacing.

The same can be said for a couple of ground vehicles too, even some better looking tanks (T-55/72B/80U/90A and I think even the Abrams, Challenger 2 and Leopard look a little dated when compared to the Merkava IV - not by much, but especially when you look at the tracks. Even so there are plenty in need of a facelift.

There are also a couple of weapons left to be brought up to current standards that need doing also.

But no, I don't think we're getting an Su-34 or any full-fidelity REDFOR aircraft that are above the third generation (MiG-23 etc)

There should be a sticky topic saying:

— Russian law prohibit the full fidelity simulation of currently servicing aircraft

— Impossible to create any module without available documentation of the aircraft

— Due to secrecy, you'll never see a generation 5 aircraft.

— So no F-22

— No F-35

— No Rafale

— No Su-35

— No Pak-fa

— No Tiger

— No anything younger than MiG-23 from the red side

I'll buy :

МиГ-23МЛД & МЛА МиГ-27К МиГ-25 Mirage III F-4E any IJ plane 1950' Korea Dynamic campaign module

Well you could still try, if you want to take it up against Russian Goverment plus associated services like FSB. What could possibly go wrong?

Might be a good one.

AFAIK the number of serving Su-34 aircraft is small, maybe Sukhoi has had trouble selling them. But I understood the plan is also to introduce more of them, unless that deal has gone bad somehow.

So depending on that we probably need to wait between 10 to 40 years before we see them in DCS.

Will Su-27 still have a long service life ahead? I'd think Mig-29A is already retired so we might see that as the first one.

No they are being phased out and replaced with Su-35, Su-57 and Su-30SM.

Modernised airframes will be around for a while longer but the writing is on the wall for SU-27S

The laws that restrict modern Russian plane simulation are part of the military technology export laws that passed in 2011/2012. Black Shark was a module before then

All the phrase needs is an asterisk explaining the timeline.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but isn't the Ka-50 still in service? It's head scratching when you read something like this and ask yourself why this modern Russian attack helicopter is fully modeled, but a Mig-29A from 30 to 40 years ago is off limits.

In addition to the legal restrictions that are mentioned, it's also worth pointing out that there were very few Ka-50s that were actually built, and many DCS missions actually feature far more Ka-50s than have ever been airborne simultaneously in real life. I'm not sure of the total number built, Wikipedia lists 32 built, but they also list the Egyptian Air Force as having 34 Ka-50 airframes, and the Russian VVS as having 12 Ka-50 airframes, but that citation links to this page: https://www.aviaport.ru/digest/2009/01/12/164434.html

The helicopter about which even an adventure feature film was shot 20 years ago, apparently, ceases to exist and will remain only in a few copies. According to NG, in the 334th Combat Training and Retraining Center for Army Aviation personnel in Torzhok, there are now eight such machines and five more unfinished at the plant itself in the Far Eastern city of Arsenyev. But now their assembly is unlikely to be completed.

So the VVS may have 8 airframes, with up to 5 more that may or may not have been completed (possibly used as sources for spare parts instead?). Apparently the VVS chose to go with the upgraded two-seat Ka-52 instead, reportedly because they felt that attack helicopters worked better with 2 pilots (which may be true, most Western attack choppers like the Cobra and Apache and Eurocopter Tiger are two-seaters).

So it is unlikely that the Ka-50 will be used in combat at any point in the future.
