Hello all.

I've recently acquired a WMR headset (lenovo explorer) over the holidays. And while my current MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G is just OK, I'm considering a new card to get some more performance.

My question is, with a budget of I'll say around $350, should I be looking for 2nd hand 10XX cards? Or I had this article come to my attention about the RTX2060. It looks to be comparable to a 1080, but comes with some Ray tracing ability (which I don't necessarily care about, particularly for DCS).

I've also noticed some good deals on 1070 and 1070ti cards in that same price range. Just want to get a feel for what people have experienced, some advice on those cars, or if I should wait.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

For VR the 20x series of cards do not really offer that much over the 10x cards. Certainly not in the fps department, maybe a little in the amount of graphic detail you can run.

I would say get the best 10x card you can afford.

( I went from 1080 Ti to 2080 Ti).

With the crash of the cryptocurrencies during the end of 2018, we'll (I hope) see video card prices drastically reduce in 2019.

That's my (hope and) prevision ;)

Until then, I'll stick with my 1080ti which is quite good already.

Bollocks given the current state of the DCS engine you should look towards a 2080Ti minimum for VR. Seriously DCS is currently that inefficient.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Went from 780Ti to 2080Ti. Used to really dislike VR. Now I love it! DCS details almost maxed out in VR. But 1200$ for a graphic card is a shame.

I'm hearing you there. :D

Hate to say it but it's true ...Of all my VR Flight sims DCS is the least optimized ...I'm not saying it's not enjoyable ....but like the Hornet not ready for prime time.

Wait a little bit more. Now on CES in January AMD will present Navi 10. This should be in Performance range 1080ti or higher for just 250 - 300$.

I'm not telling you to buy AMD over Nvidia but this will definitely have an impact on prices even Nvidia cards. I'm not disappointed with AMD performances because they always work in a range they say and are significantly cheaper. Wait to see benchmarks and final price and then decide AMD or Nvidia used or new.

Also be careful with possible CPU bottleneck. Think about it as well. In the end this 100$ you can invest in new CPU as well what in combination could lead to the best boost for you individually.

So, I guess you could say I'm graphics card agnostic and have switched between AMD/Nvida before. After reading your post, I looked around. Everything about the Navi 10 is speculation at this point. And nothing is going to be available until the middle of 2019. Which is fine.

On upgrading my cpu, yeah, I've thought about getting a 7th gen, as it would be a swap in my current mobo. But I'm not considering upgrading the mobo at this point.

Also, I was under the impression that nvidia is favored for DCS over AMD. Or did that get worked out at some point?

As I said not necessary to buy AMD but will effect on Nvidia prices same as RTX2060. Maybe used 1080ti is the best option for that money in near future.

I had come to this conlcusion as well. I'm seeing 1080TIs floating between $500 and $600 on ebay. That's not that much more than what I was thinking of spending, for about the best without breaking the bank for a 2080TI.

You may wish to check your power supply as well . 1080ti will draw a lot more power , and require 2 8-pin connectors of the correct type .
