CDT;Anyone using a flawless win7PRO SP1+nvidia card+DCS stable2.5.3 or Beta2.5.4?

I'm having CTD (ntdll.dll c0000005) since I updated from 2.5.2.20785 to the first 2.5.3 and so one. I've been struggling with this issue almost 6 months without luck, some times just waiting for updates to come.

I've read a lot of people having problems with crashes after a specific version of DCS but the only thread where appears somebody with similar issues, even similar logs is this: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=211823&page=3 where jetkid almost copy my log.

If I revert to 2.5.2.20785 everything goes well. Even I tried to install my old poor GTX 680 and the same occurs; the games runs "well" (with the gtx 680 performance limitations) till I update to any of 2.5.3 versions.

After this I posted a ticket to support team, they answer me very fast and tried to solve my problem without luck yet, but they point me in 1.-a memory problem due to dxdiag not being able to show my real vram memory, 2.-maybe I should update to win 10, and 3.-they said that unfathomably my system is not loading important files to start DCS.

I did everything instead of a complete OS install and install Beta versión; disabling mods, disabling antivirus, doing the administrator thing, deleting DCS folder, repairing DCS, cleaning up DCS, updating Windows, repairing Windows, doing the sfc /scannow thing, DDU drivers, updating nvidia drivers, reverting nvidia drivers, repairing C++, reinstalling C++, fresh DCS install, etc. nothing changes.

I have no doubt about the advices given by the support team, so please do not blame at me for writting here, I'm posting here because I'm desperate trying to solve my problem, I'm very stubborn. I read a lot related to crashes (to know that my logs doesn't give a clear clue on this) from Esac mirmidon, Bignewy, MadDog-IC, Rudel, Nineline and some other giving they valuable time to help others that like me don't have all they skills and knowledge to do it. But I'm completely convinced that there has to be something else in my case, even more when yesterday night I managed to start the game till the menu after a CaptoGlove folder delete, attempt to unsuccesfuly start, do a DCS repair and trying again reaching the menu screen. (unfortunately, I was tired and was late at night, I didnt save any log and the most important, I've been not able to replicate either, unless some load bar screens and not just logo/version)

So to the point as per title says, is there anybody using the game with similar specs like me (hardware/software) without any problem? and if it yes please, could be so kind so as to explain me in which conditions?

Thankshelpsmilie.gif

OK. Here's my rig than run fine OB from 1.5.7 up to 2.5.3:

Win7pro64SP1 (updated), E8400@3GHz, 8GB, GTX660_2GB (some 1 year old driver), SSD, TM T.Flight HOTAS X, custom IR headtrack w/PS3 Eye mod

Then I upgraded to this, since 2.5.3 up to 2.5.4:

G4560@3.5GHz, 16GB, rest is the same

Modules: Nevada, FC3, F-15C campaigns

Mods: never ever.

Do I have crashes or freezes? Yes, maybe 5 a year, only on the older HW, but never preventing me to start a game.

You seem to have done almost everything ralated to DCS but I would still try to reinstall OS, as the ntdll.dll suggest rather general system instability. Maybe some torture test can reveal some weakness in memory too.

Hi,

I was having CTD after 2.5.4 but the cause was different from yours, as mine ocurred when using some Moose script and was clearly related to it ... a couple of days ago a hotfix version of Moose fixed it for me.

On your case, when you say "deleting DCS folder", do you mean the one at /Saved Games/ or the one at /Program Files/ ? If the latter, then I suggest you try to rename the folder /users/your-user/saved Games/DCS (or DCS.openbeta) to something like dcs.bak

The next time you run DCS it should re-create the /saved games/ folder and use standard defaults ... let's see if it runs then.

Edit: I checked your Log file and it doesnt throw any light into your problem, as the last line "2019-01-02 21:02:33.704 ERROR EDOBJECTS: Destruction shape not found AVIASHTAB_CRASH" is a standard common error that can be ignored (I get it too) ... your DCS crashes before being able to register anything about it on the Log :(

Same with the error "2018-12-24 11:40:58.344 ERROR DX11BACKEND: getVideoMemoryUsage doesn't work." .. its a common error for older nVidia cards, I get that too with my GTX-970. It is not the cause of your CTD.

As you can see my rig is almost the same, 2500k OC to 4.5, W7, SSD for DCS.

After reading all the things you have done im clueless. I can only mention what things caused me the few crashes ive gotten in the past.

Install new graphic card without using DDU first.

Using specific drivers versions, only very rare. Best for me 399.24.

Using very old mission from previous DCS versions.

Using mods not compatible anymore.

Editing files inside main folder that new DCS version dont support anymore.

My advice If you have not did that already is try a fresh nstall both DCS and users DCS folder.

I mean. Cut and paste your DCS main folder and users DCS folder to a separate driver. DeleTe EVERYTHING DCS related after where you had original installed DCS both main game and DCS folder inside users.

Reboot.

Download latest release versión installed and Install DCS from scratch but only the stock game. Not modules, not terrains, just DCS, as it is without extra content.

Reboot after instalation.

Run DCS for the first time and see If you are able to load the game. If you are able, try to fly some time in the Su-25T. Look for issues or not. If not, Install one by one your modules and try to load-fly.

I know is very time consuming but i cant think in anything else.

Also worth a try this:

Check my Microsoft Net Framework Versions installed and my Visual C++ Redistributable versions installed, maybe you are missing some.

And also check your memory management in Windows. Check that is system managed or you have enough ( over 28.000 = if custom managed ). I preffer System managed.

Hi guys, thanks for your answers.

Draconus, reinstalling OS is what I've been avoiding all this time but right now I'm thinking that maybe this would be already repaired instead of having spent hundred of hours for nothing. At the moment I'm thinking the ntdll.dll is corrupted in some maner or there is a mess in registry/win installation but I will try some memory benchmark, just to try everything.

Rudel, that meant DCS folder on users/games. I did with no luck, even turning VR of in options because I saw somewhere people that try this with luck.

Esac, all those tips were taked into account already unless 1.-I just renamed my DCS folder in users to another name completely different without delete it from where it was, 2.-lived Eagle Dynamics folder because I installed JGSM inside (to keep the differents JGSM related to the games that work with). Seeing that there is so many people that don't use mods I'm going to unnistall it too. (that is said, I have a completely unmmoded version right now, just a fresh DCS install from the box) and...3.-I have the same framework version as you and all the C++ in the photo but curiously 2015 x86, and 2013/2017 x86 are missing!!!huh.gif I'm gonna find and install them before proceeding but I'm completely sure they were there all those past months.

The system managed pagefile is already applied, I forget to mention!

At least now I have the certainty my rig can handle DCS for sure. I would test one more thing before reinstalling OS, if your advices doesn't work, and would be to replace the ntdll.dll file with another working without problems. So taking advantage of your goodwill, would any of you send me via pm this file of your system? I already found it but I don't feel confident enough with the sources. If not, I'll not take it as an offense of course.

If this doesn't work, i'm thinking also to update (using the win 7 installation disk) instead a clean install. Any one did this in the past? do the register be cleaned and repaired...or will be another waste of time? I'm prety sure that corrupted files will be repaired but the registry....

Would like to thank your effort trying to solve my problem. Such a good people here...many thanks. Obviously, I'll post the results!

I've tried again a DCS clean install applying those advices and tips but do not want to start either. The same s**t...

After this I went to replace the ntdll.dll file and starting the OS just command prompt, a classpnp.sys error file arose freezing to a blue screen while OS tried to spool up. huh.gif This is new!!! Then I thought it might be a HDD defect but don't have the possibility to test unless a Checkdisk, that revealed nothing. Although it is a 7 years old disk, is it likely to have a defect??

A ntdll.dll along with classpnp.sys show up something wrong in my rig so, I thing it's time to clean up the whole SDD and go for a fresh OS install....lets see.

This is as close as I am to flyingpilotfly.gif

Still no test of memory under stress Draconus.

If it is a 7 year old HDD, it is certainly edging towards failure so might as well think about replacing. The MTBF curve for most consumer drives starts increasing after 5-7 years. That said, if there's bad sectors or it's failing at I/O ops, you'd start seeing more random CTDs rather than consistently one dll.

Have you tried scheduling a full chkdisk (p, r and r switches) on boot btw? Or did you just run the default check disk?

Aside from actually fixing your error, I'd recommend replacing your HDD with a 250gb+ SSD anyway if you're going to do a full install. The difference in PC operation with your main OS on an SSD is night and day.

I would try moving pagefile to different drive with small value, restart then back to normal. maybe that will refresh what ever error is saved in it.

also try running with only 8GB of memory, if it CTD again swap with the other 8GB. there is also a chance that removing memory and then back after some time will fix the error that is saved in it.

then maybe clear the cmos before considering OS reinstall

Right click Computer icon and select Manage computer. Go to event log and search for errors in the system events. If there is something wrong with the disk you would find ntfs or disk errors there. What is on the hdd anyway? It doesn't matter how old it is. It's still HDD so it's slooow.

I wouldn't tamper with dlls - it's very rare to fix such errors this way. Even then you have to remove it with the exact same version and file size or else you get into more troubles.

No errors are stored in pagefile, not ever in ram and not cmos either - don't go there. Checking the ram modules one by one is a good advice though.

If you reinstall the OS go with full clean format all on the SSD, then drivers, system updates and a clean DCS.

You certainly don't need all those C++ for DCS. Maybe other apps and drivers do but they will install what they need.

Esac, I'll do mate. Right now testing RAM

Buzzles, I think there has been a misunderstanding. As in my post I wrote HDD you have understood that I'm using DCS on a HDD. Sorry but since 2011 I'm using DCS on a SDD and for sure it's night and day.

I've tried a default chkdisk because i don't really know how to do it using its options. I'm gonna check it out.

Revs, I did already all relative to pagefile without succes.

My system has 4 memory sticks 4gb DDR3 each. Trying what you suggested relative to memory sticks I found a couple of things:

1.-Win 7 starts and works pretty well with only one stick, aand...no classpnp.sys error with this configuration.

2.-Then I swapped the sticks from their original positions and tried to start each time with one more. No classpnp.sys error in every attempt. As son as I insert the fourth, classpnp.sys error again. As you are thinking, obviously the last is the faulty stick...NO. If I swap it with one of the three already working well, no classpnp.sys error. As son as I put the fourth, no matter which one...classpnp.sys. So one thing I didn't tried yet (I'm realizing while writting) is to put just one stick into the fourth slot, maybe a faulty MOBO.

Draconus, good one the manage computer thing (I never used it nor know about it even) I attach the screens because I don't really know how to read into it although I thing there is no SDD errors at all.

I went to C++ as per said by Esac and also following this ED advise here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/556/ but I agree with you what is said in this link relative to C++ is not causing my issue though. (anyway tried everything)

As I understood you begin to have classpnp.sys errors after replacing the ntdll.dll file. Please recover your original file and check again.

You have to go deeper into "visor de eventa" and then "sistema eventa" to see details on the errors. I can only see spdt errors related to DaemonTools driver but I don't know how much is it related to DCS problems if at all.

Also we can see you have system installed on the HDD which gives you poor system performance also affecting DCS.

The thing is working again!!!! Finally....lol.gif

I did a complete reinstall of win7 with drivers and all the updates (such a tedious task)

Then nvidia drivers 417.35

DCS without a single module (tested and ok)

DCS with everything (perfect)

Now I have to configure it all to my taste (no really dificult)

I think that something time ago f****d the OS but I didn't noticed until update 2.5.3 revealed it. As I reverted and went ok this confused me and moved me away from right path.doh.gif

Draconus, negative! I do not ever replace the file because I was not able to. But trying to replace it via secure command prompt then appeared classpnp error also. This was the definitive clue to realize that my OS was bad injured, together with false memory stick behaviour.

I checked "visor de eventos" and "eventos del sistema" and some errors appeared to.

I repaired the System files on D:....now everything on SSD (this was something I wanted to do when reinstall OS, don't know if repair option could do the same though)

Anyway.....I'm very happy again soooo let's joystick.gif

Thank you very much to all of you....next thing I would like to try would be MP experience.

Glad you made it! I just hate it when it's not working to someone and they cannot enjoy the game as I do :)

Yeah, updates and stuff... bread and butter for me since I'm IT guy. Good choice to left out the HDD - with the current prices of SSD it's a thing of the past. System repair leaves it in the same path - just overwrites the system files. I believe for replacing core system file you would need to boot the system temporarily from external drive.
