Jarhead_SGT Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) This video says it all. I have a 980 TI and am stuck in ASW at 45FPS. I would spend the money for a 2080 TI but why bother if DCS 2.5 isn't optimized in for VR? I know there are a ton of workarounds, but please - the whole VR lot of us - are begging for some concentrated work in this area. Edited February 22, 2019 by Jarhead_SGT
toutenglisse Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Djliquidice who posted that video opened a thread : https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=230202 He didn't gave news, if things got better or not with some settings. But several things are to be noticed in his video. On the ramp, the static Lot20 hornets are causing the drops (fps + gpu), and since, this "bug" has evolved in good way. All along the video after that, monitoring shows 1 logical core of cpu being near max all the time (it's how DCS does with a hyperthreaded cpu) - in this case the solution in my exp. is to turn off HT. With HT off DCS spread the workload quasi equally between the physical cores (same, from other users, is achieved with process lasso mode singlethread or even HT turn off in P.L. if the version has the option, wich is better imo) With no news from him I don't know if that works for him, but it's explainable that his gpu runs below 40% load all the time because his pegged logical core can't do twice his work with his settings, so he is stuck at 45 fps (with some variation sometimes because ASW is off, but still mostly 45 fps because ASW off desn't work normally with DCS - if so it would always varies). His 2080 Ti can easily (with is low settings) run 90 fps (it renders 45 fps with a load < 40%). But the cpu last logical core (and of course needed optimizations !!) is holding the system in his exemple.
dburne Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 With a 980 card running with ASW on 45 fps in DCS will be all you get. Wolf8312 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 You would see alot of gains with even a 1080Ti. DCS performance for me personally has never been better, thanks to the VIVEs motion smoothing, but it depends on what sort of person you are as well (For example if you are the sort to obsess over ghosting etc). I used to have a 980Ti though and it wasn't really good enough even then. You should however make sure you turn off MSSA (like I didn't)! But to be fair to the developers I got VR when it came out, and the progress has actually been very substantial if I compare what I have now to what I had back then, but thats also due to developers working for the VIVE as well. ------------ 3080Ti, i5- 13600k 32GB VIVE index, VKB peddals, HOTAS VPC MONGOOSE, WARTHOG throttle, BKicker,
Goblin Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 VR performance has indeed increased as of late. I used to install Kegetys shader mod, to get better performance, but now I get good performance without it. Now, I’m sure ED can and will tweak DCS even further, for VR.
airdog Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I went from a 980Ti to a 2080Ti and there was a huge difference in performance in VR. It was something that could not be measured though...things were just so much smoother...it just felt better and more realistic. Best I can explain it...its one of those things you'll know it when you see it. VR performance has been doing well for me also. I can even add a little MSAA to clear things up without losing much if anything at all. still holding steady at 45 and can even jump a bit higher when flying up high Coming Soon... hazzer Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 (edited) Vr is clearly not a priority, the performance is awful. I noticed it is mainly to do with shadows. Is it possible to just have cockpit shadows? Edited February 27, 2019 by hazzer RTX 2080ti, I7 9700k, 32gb ram, SSD, Samsung Odyssey VR, MSFFB2, T-50 Throttle, Thrustmaster Rudder Pedals
toutenglisse Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Vr is clearly not a priority, the performance is awful. I noticed it is mainly to do with shadows. Is it possible to just have cockpit shadows? Yes : set shadows to what you want (low med high) and set ground shadows to off.
