This is a two seater and I know pilots want a good jester but as a rio we do not want jester near the ability of a human rio or else we would be out of a job ...

Here we go with the 'real' RIO's not wanting a capable AI RIO of similar abilities..because somehow having an equally capable AI RIO in the opponents aircraft is somehow unfair?

Well as a solo pilot who flies with the AI Jester RIO - I DO want similar performance to a human, why should I be penalised because I fly solo?? Please explain why I deserve to be at a disadvantage.

Also why would you be 'out of a job'? - so you are just flying RIO because you want an advantage...not because you enjoy the position and want to fly with a friend in the same aircraft?

I strongly believe he was just joking...

Because balancing Jester will be hard from being close to Human RIO to a hacker... Knowing how DCS spotting is really poor right now, Jester can pick up enemies while in dogfight, when in certain situation a human rio wouldnt....

for example, im flying over an area and jester calls out dirt/mud... stinger to my 5 oclock.... were a human rio wouldnt have seen a guy with a stinger in the mountains while were flying over it lol

Thought the hashtags were enough..guess I was wrong

On a related note, are ranges in the gun and sidewinder training missions too close for Jester to be working the radar? I'm having a tough time spotting targets and get no help from Jester until I'm close enough for visual call outs.

Me too… And even if I go towards the "nails" I do not get a proper lock on the Targets... Doesnt feel like a RIO is supporting me...

Before you call everything a "bug": RTFM & try again! Thank you. :music_whistling:

I'm also puzzled by the daft response, but please don't let that discourage you from posting more advice combined with subtle jokes in the future.

We already have the NATOPS manuals for leaning stuff the boring way.

As a new part-time RIO, it seems like it's the radar not Jester. I have the same thing happen. An easy lock of a large target directly ahead in STT and the radar loses lock almost every time. I should be able to melt the enemy plane with this radar but it can't hold lock?

I find my experience using Jester quite frustrating. I have been playing missions and training missions with targets just in front of him, and even telling him were to scan, he can't find a target, much less hold it.

Just now, I played one in Through the Inferno. I had 2 MiG-29s located by AWACS. I was going towards them at the same altitude, basically in front on them, and he can't even find ONE until they are lock on us and shoot us missiles? What good is having Phoenix missiles if the stupid RIO AI can't even get a lock for a target in front of him?

+1 Most of my issue with situation awareness on the tomcat seems to be because F14 is designed for the pilot to be supported by a competent RIO and it's not possible for the pilot to compensate for a bad RIO since he lacks the displays and controls the RIO has.

It seems we will have to take both jobs at once, at least for the BVR situations, just set autopilot (I don't trutst Iceman either, he sometimes puts the plane in vertical after switching back and forth), and use the radar from the RIO station, and launch the Phoenixes from there.

+1!! And he should ask for autorisation before ejecting!!! ;-)

Well, that might be a bit too much...;) At least he should salute before he goes!

Just to add to this, when Jester loses a STT lock, he should be automatically trying to re-establish the lock. In other words, if the pilot tells jester "go STT lock", jester should be going STT lock from that point on until being told to do something else.

I find that I have to drill through the menu to BVR->STT->Enemy Ahead, then lock is lost, then drill through the menu, then lock is lost etc, etc until I give up with his shenanigans and try the ACM modes (which magically don't lose lock).

Jester is a little bit lazy :)
