Nightsniper_1 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Looking at getting an Asus ROG STRIX 2060 OC. Wondering how the rtx 2060 OC works out with the f14. Is it worth the buy? i5-7600k @ 3.8 GHz, Strix 1050ti OC, 16 GB 2666 MHz DDR4 Ram, Corsair H110i, 500 GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, Windows 10 64-bit, Track IR-5, Saitek X-56 F-15C, A-10C, F-5, M-2000C, UH-1H, F-86F, AV-8B, F/A-18C, F-14 A&B, F-16, F-15E, F-4E, P-47, Tornado, F-111, Mirage F-1, A-29 :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
dcrosby Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 People will most likely disagree with me, for me I got a 2080TI around xmas / new year, hoping for two things, 1 Faster FPS in VR on DCS, and 2 to get Unreal Engine to Raytrace. Initially I was disappointed on both counts, over the last 3 months now Unreal and Unity have released plans for ray-tracing. Now I'm waiting for DCS to do something cool. But from what I understand'm mostly CPU Bound, so going from 980TI to 2080TI didn't do much, I have gained some stability in my frame-rate but I didn't see much of a jump, I'm just now more consistent at 45 fps, where before I slid into the 30's and 20's every so often... explosions etc...
Tj1376 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) RTX 2060? I use the Gigabyte Mini RTX 2060. On single monitor 1920x1080 I get over 100fps in the F14. On triple monitor 5280(?)x1080 I get 45ish with the gpu maxed at 100 percent. Terrain textures are low to conserve memory but everything else is maxed. CPU is a 4770k OCd to 4.2ghz. Gpu is running stock, although I use MSI afterburner to increase the power limit to max (that impacts how the card automatically boosts, but I’m not tweaking anything else.) I went from a 780ti to a 2060- so I felt a lot of improvements. I’m not sure that 10 series folks are going to see any major improvements. OnlyforDCS Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) It depends. You're coming from a 1050Ti, so there will definitely be an improvement. I recently upgraded to the Gigabyte 2060RTX GS, from a 970GTX and it has made all the difference but admitedly the 970 is an older generation card. The rest of your system is much more recent than mine, so I believe that you would ultimately benefit more from the upgrade. Edited March 23, 2019 by OnlyforDCS Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
Wizard_03 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Just went from a 970 to an OC 2070 difference is night and day for me too. On a single 1920 x 1080 I get zero stutters and no dips in frames. But Idk about going from 10 series to 20 series. DCS F/A-18C :sorcerer:
Nightsniper_1 Posted March 23, 2019 Author Posted March 23, 2019 thanks guys, hopefully going to get one soon i5-7600k @ 3.8 GHz, Strix 1050ti OC, 16 GB 2666 MHz DDR4 Ram, Corsair H110i, 500 GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, Windows 10 64-bit, Track IR-5, Saitek X-56 F-15C, A-10C, F-5, M-2000C, UH-1H, F-86F, AV-8B, F/A-18C, F-14 A&B, F-16, F-15E, F-4E, P-47, Tornado, F-111, Mirage F-1, A-29 :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Jethro11 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I went from 970 to 2060 with VR, and it made a pretty noticeable difference for me. I say go for it.
will- Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 both, gfx card and processor would be a good choice. i find dcs likes it above 4ghz with higher settings. Intel i9-9900K 32GB DDR4, RTX 2080tiftw3, Windows 10, 1tb 970 M2, TM Warthog, 4k 144hz HDR g-sync.
DmitriKozlowsky Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Expect 10-20% increase in performance over 10XX equivalent. There is a semi-entry level RTX 1660Ti, which is 1060 with RTX Touring architecture.
Nightsniper_1 Posted March 24, 2019 Author Posted March 24, 2019 I can overclock my i5, don’t know to how much though, how good is the 1660? i5-7600k @ 3.8 GHz, Strix 1050ti OC, 16 GB 2666 MHz DDR4 Ram, Corsair H110i, 500 GB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, Windows 10 64-bit, Track IR-5, Saitek X-56 F-15C, A-10C, F-5, M-2000C, UH-1H, F-86F, AV-8B, F/A-18C, F-14 A&B, F-16, F-15E, F-4E, P-47, Tornado, F-111, Mirage F-1, A-29 :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Galf Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 The RTX 2060 is effectively 90% of a GTX 1080. It'll be fine! Go ahead :)
Galf Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I can overclock my i5, don’t know to how much though, how good is the 1660? 1660 is quite behind the 2060. It's a good 1080p card though, if you do not intend to play VR or 1440p, it's fine. For VR it's very limiting though. edit: sorry for the double post, I'm used to another forum with auto-merge... my bad.
tosmonkey Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I just purchased a 1660 Ti and it's quite good. I am running it in 2560x1080 wide screen and I consistently get over 100 fps. Even in PG flying the F 14 with all settings on high. Coming from the 480 Rx that I replaced it is a vast improvement.
Kirkey_badgers Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Questioning whether to upgrade from a GTX980ti or not even if it is a STRIX
Galf Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Questioning whether to upgrade from a GTX980ti or not even if it is a STRIX Not worth it for DCS imho, and you want to buy minimum a 2080... a GTX 980Ti performs close to an RTX 2060.

Thanks buddy, although I was annoyed at latest NV drivers, rolled back one, and performance seemed a lot better. No crashes or issues at all in the F-14 now. Odd!
