mehksauce Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 If i tdc depress, it will soft lock a target? so i will need to tdc depress twice to go STT?
Jak525 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 (edited) Correct. First soft lock will designate launch & steer, second (on another target) will make it designated target 2. Then TDC depressing again on the L&S or DT2 will STT it. Edited March 31, 2019 by Jak525
Harker Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 (edited) Real pilots often use SSS right to quickly lock up a target, instead of 2x TDC Depress. When the TDC is on top of a brick, SSS Right will immediately lock the target, instead of placing the radar in AACQ mode. Harker Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Yes, or just SSS Right in AA mode, when your TDC is over the brick. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Ohhh, since the EA release of the Hornet I was wondering what the purpose of SSS Right is, as you could hard lock targets just fine pressing the TDC. Now with soft lock functionality the SSS right actually makes sense now, as it enable you to hard lock immediately, unlike TDC in (L)TWS mode. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
mortalkombat Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Allright guys need some disambiguation. What is DT2, L&S and SSS?
QuiGon Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 L&S (launch & steer) is your number 1 designated LTWS target, while DT2 is your number 2 designated LTWS target. SSS is the Sensor Select Switch. Jak525 Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Designated target 2 -- your second target you're tracking in LTWS (also when we get TWS I think too) Launch & steering target - the first target you're tracking in LTWS (again also in TWS I think) or the Target you're single target tracking (STT)-ing (STT=traditional lock). SSS = sensor select switch.

AvroLanc Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Does SSS right work like this in the sim at the moment? Yes it does. When cursor is over radar contact. But AACQ itself is a little buggy. Instead of locking nearest contact, it locks up the first contact the radar sweep line hits. Not altogether useful.
Harker Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 But AACQ itself is a little buggy. Instead of locking nearest contact, it locks up the first contact the radar sweep line hits. Not altogether useful. True, it'll often lock something far away, while you have a target at 20nm. I only use it when I'm blind, but I know that a target is there. Tenkom Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 The name “launch and steer” seems to imply that if I launch a missile it will track this target. I thought LTWS could not do this. Does it switch to STT automatically?

Does it switch to STT automatically? I believe it should switch to TWS for Amraam and STT for Sparrow. TWS of course is not available yet. STT for Sparrow - hopefully later. Hopefully LTWS will get a bit more love over the next couple updates.
Harker Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 The name “launch and steer” seems to imply that if I launch a missile it will track this target. I thought LTWS could not do this. Does it switch to STT automatically? L&S refers to the fact that you get targeting information on the RDR page and on the HUD. The LTWS's update rate is not high enough to guide a missile to the target and it does not automatically change to STT when you launch, you need to go STT yourself. I should be able to lock the L&S target with SCS right, which should trigger FACQ, which doesnt exist in the sim yet.

Fast Acq works by immediately commanding STT on the brick under cursor. Which is correct. AACQ is a little wrong at the moment. We also need the nosewheel steering/undesignate HOTAS command. This will bug the highest pri trackfile as L&S.
Pikey Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Interesting, have you a source? because the Navy AWI training specifically says the opposite as it should centre the scan volume of the TWS on the target. Harker Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 (edited) Interesting, have you a source? because the Navy AWI training specifically says the opposite as it should centre the scan volume of the TWS on the target. Not a paper source, but I'm quoting someone on the forums who claims to be a former pilot (but I don't remember either the username or the post, to be honest). Keep in mind that we're not using TWS, but RWS. LTWS is just a sub-mode of the latter. Edited April 2, 2019 by Harker The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs.
