Phantom88 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Hello DCS VR Pilots,As a former Oculas Rift and now Pimax 5k+ User I've always come to the DCS VR forum for all the latest news, hardware, and firmware for all the various VR devices. I perticularly like the threads where users post their own personal experiences with each device,It's always interesting how some pilots can live without something's while others it's a "Must Have" It reminds me of the (old timer alert) FSX release Days,FSX was far ahead of its time,Really in its release days there was no adequate hardware to run it on Max settings...So we all had to make trade-offs on our setting to get it to run acceptable to our own hardware and visual eye candy. These "New" days in VR remind me a lot of the early FSX Day's in the sense we all must make sacrifices in our settings to get DCS VR to run at its best immersion possible, So my question is....What are your "Must Have" features in DCS settings to make the VR experience the best it can be? Patrick
Gladman Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 MSAA is high as you can run it i9 9900K @ 5.1Ghz - ASUS Maximus Hero XI - 32GB 4266 DDR4 RAM - ASUS RTX 2080Ti - 1 TB NVME - NZXT Kraken 62 Watercooling System - Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas (Virpil Base) - MFG Crosswind Pedals - Pimax 5K+ VFA-25 Fist Of The Fleet [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic99190_2.gif[/sigpic] Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 | Discord
Rosebud47 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 MSAA 2x Large Field of View with Pimax5k+ ... the rest to be adjusted, to make it run a stable 36 FPS running the Pimax with 72Hz ( or 45 FPS when running at 90Hz ). Brainwarp Smart Smoothing cuts the target Hz anyways into half. Fixed Foveated Rendering works fine and gets a performance gain approx 10-15% ...but only at daylight. Pimax´ fix foveated rendering is crap when there are light sources, like the illumination of the gauges in the cockpit of the Mig21, as it turns the lights and illumination off, when watching through the outer ring of the sweetspot. ... love the large field of view in VR :-) AH-64D Apache / F-16C Viper / F1 Mirage / Mi-24 Hind / F-14b Tomcat

Rosebud47 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Mssa-as much as i can get-I hate the shimmering ! Yes, hate the shimmering too, but MSAA is very demanding. Tried anti-aliasing options via Nvidia driver, but doesn´t work as good or at all, like the MSAA of DCS World system. AH-64D Apache / F-16C Viper / F1 Mirage / Mi-24 Hind / F-14b Tomcat
Arctander Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Water on high. Flying the PG I can't stand poor water quality in either a Huey or Hornet....

Yeah , on 1080p i had it minimised with 2xmsaa and 1.5ssaa , but in VR it is still very objectionable even with 2x msaa and 1.4 pd..... 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2

Totally off topic, but could you share your experience from using the rift to now the 5k+? How big of a difference it is? I'm specially interested in the spotting of both air and ground targets and legibility of MFDs.
Phantom88 Posted April 1, 2019 Author Posted April 1, 2019 Hello falcon 120,I'd be Happy to.... For Me going from Rift to Pimax was a noticeable difference. --FOV-- This was the first Big difference I noticed,It was like going from looking through a periscope to having a panoramic picture in front of you. --Resolution-- Very noticeable difference here as well,Hornet DDI'S,MFD's,HUD,Small Analog Gauges all much better and readable compared to Rift. --Target Spotting-- For me it's a little better,It could be my Pixel Density is set too high to spot far away targets. --Drawbacks-- Their is some distortion at the very edges of the lenses,Noticeable when doing Carrier Landings and you're making the long left sweep turn to final while trying to keep the carrier in site. --Demanding-- It's very demanding on hardware...You'll need plenty of PC Horsepower to run it at max, --Comfort-- The Pimax headstrap is not as user friendly or adjustable as Rift's,Some user's actually complain of pain after long missions. These are just my personal observations after about a month of use. Hope this answers some of your questions. Patrick
