Cockpit builders, why do you fly with cockpit view?

I don't get it, I see some really nice cockpit front panel made and when they show it it's with cockpit view, it actually looks silly, you end up with like 5- 6 MFD's in your view, Why?

My intention is NOT to fly in cockpit view but some people without every mapped control need both.

As far as it looking silly to you, that is your opinion, if they are happy with it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

The limited FOV is what real pilots have to contend with.

Switches and levers create muscle memory, which is more immersive than keyboarding.

Given these preferences, I’m willing to have a visual echo of the control panel.

Others may have different reasons.

If you remove the cockpit you cannot see the wings, canopy and other visual cues so Im keeping it even if I have all the controls mapped to a glass cockpit.

I asked on another topic, if it was possible to have hud only view but still being able to see the wing and side panels?

What would you put at the place where you would have the mfds and the hud, a black hole?

That's what BMS does:

It hides the cockpit, but still keeps the "shell" so that you can see the rest of the aircraft and not see through it like how DCS' Shift+F1 view works.

Yes!!Thanks, that's what I mean. Is it possible to do this in DCS?

I guess weirdness is in the eye of the beholder...

Yes.

When having MFDs on an external monitor, the ones on the main screen are only disturbing and needless.

I'm still curious about flying a simpit in VR. Muscle memory + no distractions....

So tempting to build one, if I had space and funds.

(Space more of an issue...would have to get rid of my pinball machine which I certainly don't want to do)

Seems like the physical pit would press up close into the blank area if you are scaling to the height of the HUD image. Any stray projection onto the physical pit panels would be minimized by the dark image.

Because the way DCS does it you can see through the skin of the airplane. Imagine F-35 type views ;)

I think that view should be redone, there are plenty of cockpit builders that get into trouble.

Other things that would be nice to have: Easier way to export and place viewports aswell as remove the ability to block sensor exports on multiplayer servers.
