I'm having a heck of a time getting the carrier to talk to me in the first mission. I'm using preset 4, frequency 265.000 I never get a response, including when landing. I've tried both campaign types (supercarrier and normal).

 

In the Jester menu as well, when trying to set the radio, I notice that the carrier isn't in the list of stations as well, only Batumi and other airfields.

 

Has anyone else played recently and noticed this?

 

For me the carrier only talks to me during landing once I’m about 30 miles out. I don’t get a response during startup or takeoff.

RIO: "Dude, it's ICS, use actual radio instead."

For carrier use Tune TAC instead of ATC in Jester menu.

In hot start you're already in the launch procedure so you don't need ATC menu.

 

@Kaba, this is how the Mission 3 (OCA West) SC starts for me although I somehow managed to go through without damage (DCS physics ;) ). No slideshows during the mission.

Thanks for flagging this - I've fixed this internally and sent off the updated files ( with a few other bug fixes). Should be available in an update soon.

 

Afaik it shouldn't happen - SC not supposed to spawn you on top of statics - but at least it doesn't cause damage. Did this happen on the very first time you started the mission, or after restarting? I could only get it to occur after a restart, very odd!

In the same mission, non-supercarrier hot start, my takeoff is blocked by 4 static F-18s on the front starboard side of the deck. I guess we're supposed to launch from cat 3 and 4 but it is set to 1 and 2, with player on 2.

Thanks - there is a recurring DCS bug where the player aircraft is put on the wrong catapult, so it spawns you on cat 1. I'm unable to work around that so i will just remove the static hornets in a future update.

Looks like the updates I made did not make it into the most recent patch. I'll follow up on this from my side, and hopefully can include the changes mentioned above soonish.

 

I was hoping the latest patch would sort the F-14's lights out. The formation lights are non-existent, the landing light's too dim etc. Is it just me, or is this a known issue?

 

Probably one to discuss in a bug thread rather than here. I just make missions :pilotfly:

Hey guys!

 

After a very long time I got back to the Cat and decided that Kaba's campaign was perfect to brush up on my (poor) F-14 skills, so I went for it, in the SC cold start flavour.

 

Well, in mission 2A, Cargo, the game keeps crashing on me at random moments... I really have no idea what could cause this, is anyone else experiencing it?

In the last mission after the first wave when it's like 6vs2 I always end up winchester (or with just winders) and then avoid the battle rather help and it's not really fun that much. Of course I had to call the CAP for help. Do you share the feeling too?

Played through the campaign again, Cold start SC, if you're still adding missions, could you add a dusk/night mission?

 

And on a completely separate note, are you planning to make campaigns on other maps?

 

Or with different planes? Would love an F-16 campaign now that we're getting Mavericks.

Hey, hope you're enjoying the playthrough. I think i will not be adding further missions to this campaign, but am still making some missions. You can find these in the user files section, there are a couple for the viper (but no ground attack...yet!)

 

I am slowly pulling together a slightly more realistic and complex campaign. Once i get some more progress and hopefully some voice acting I will try to share more!

The new campaign you're working on aimed at a specific plane? Or will you be able to use any?

I don't know if it's possible, as I'm not familiar with building missions, but is there a way to choose what role you want to play at mission start? If there's a CAP element and a SEAD element in the same mission, you could choose which you'd want to be a part of, and what plane you'd use?

Currently building it for the hornet. Pipe dream is that most missions I'll also make a 'bonus' version with another plane. Maybe a CAP in the f-14 or strike in the viper, CAS in an A10C or even F-14 if the Jester LANTIRN thing develops well. They'll be a bit anachronistic but a fun extra.

 

 

Yes, you can have missions with a choice of plane and element. I've made a few here if you have Syria:

To be honest they are very fiddly to build, as it's trying to jam 3 missions into one, so I don't think I'd ever want to make a full campaign like that!

Hello, Kaba.

 

I am writing this small feedback as I have just completed the campaign. 

For a newbie F-14 pilot, this was a great introduction to the module and the aircraft. 

It involved everything F-14 can do, and level design was really well done. 

Given the quality, I am quite surprised that this campaign is free. 

Through your work I have learned a lot more than flying tutorials and instant missions. 
 

There are just few things I wanted to point out thou. 

From the 4th mission(the mission where you escort TARPS flight), I realized that I could not contact  my wingman for some reason. 
First time, I thought it was a bug and restarted the mission few times but it didnt fix the problem.

I found that actually I had to tune the radio frequency to 124.00 later on by searching DCS forums. 

It was a good experience for me since I did not know how to operate F-14's radio properly. 

However, I think it would be nice if player's wingman's frequency could be added to the briefing. 

Many experienced players know that 124.00 is the basic channel frequency used for wingman in this game, but I am pretty sure many newbies like me will have some tough time trying to find out what went wrong. . 

 

In addition, in some missions I completely ran out of ammunition while the task isnt completed yet (especially in the last mission where pop-up groups come out constantly). 
I was able to finish the missions most of times thanks to other friendly CAP fighters, but I wished that there was an option to let Focus(AWACS) know that I cannot continue to fight anymore and need to RTB. 


Anyway, thanks for the great missions.

It had been a great week playing through them!

It is in the briefing - the last picture (4th) shows a table with comms, channels, frequencies, names, etc. It is not clear that 124.00MHz is CH1 on the RIO's radio, though, as the pilot cannot set anything lower than 225.00 on his radio.

I am looking to get into this campaign.

Does anyone know if briefings/documentation is available as an external file ? Something that you can read, before you get into the mission/DCS.

I'm on the 3rd mission of the SC version of this, great fun so far.

This mission is the train yard bombing mission and I'm finding every time that one of the SEAD Hornets ends up in the drink after launch 😞
