Filters change should not be allowed that easily during the flight imho.

There was a plastic filter that snapped on the face of the VDI. It was kept in the storage box in the cockpit.

perhaps a 2 min animation of you rummaging through the storage box past the half opened pack of charms and Chapstick looking for the red gel, and then you can optionally curse yourself out because you remember where you left it back on the boat.

no, thats a seperate filter (handle on the right side of the VDI)

When changing the vdi does it automatically change the colour of the HUD as well?

 

 

No the HUD color is controlled separately.
