FZG_Immel Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 2 years ago and with my previous rig I bought an oculus rift. While I loved the immersion factor, the pixelation and low perf made me go back to my ultra wide screen. Now that I got a new rig (9900k and 2080ti) should I try VR again ? Is the rift S the right choice ? Will I get enough FPS with decents settings for the game to be enjoyable ? tintifaxl Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Wait for the next ob patch with vr performance optimizations. Until then, do nothing :smartass: Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.

flameoutme Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Personally, although I did buy a Rift S, I am excited about the Valve Index. Can't wait to hear what DCS users with that have to say. I have a feeling from this point on, we will see an ever increasing number and variety of viewers.

33-DFTC Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Rgr that ! Thx Do we know when that comes ? In a few days, probably this week in Open Beta. Regarding your choice of headset and your specs, you should probably look into the HP Reverb who offers the best clarity in VR today, none of the competition can match it at the moment. If you plan to use your VR headset only as a seated experience, the average controllers and the inside out tracking will not interfere with your experience. What scares me with the HP reverb is performance Running twice 2160x2160 résolution is going to drain any system !!! Svsmokey Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Yes , i can't imagine satisfactory sim performance with the Reverb and today's hardware . remi Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Valve Index is probably the way to go as its popularity and advantages over competing headsets will make it the default for VR. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Svsmokey Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 (edited) Yeah , i do think it will be the best-compromise headset for the near-future , for those seeking resolution AND performance . Fewer tracking issues as well . I've seen a lot of O+ tracking posts , which the Reverb will probably replicate . Nagilem Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 If you can hold out til July, you should have a good set of reviews on here. I know several have preordered both the Index and Reverb. Since you are not new to VR and have a top end system, I personally don't think the rift s would satisfy. I know it wouldn't for me. Not hatin on it - I know some love it, but I find I like integrated sound solutions and would probably want a higher resolution... YMMV. :pilotfly: Specs: I9-9900k; ROG Strix RTX 2080ti; Valve Index HMD; 32GB DDR4 3200 Ram; Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD; TM Warthog with pedals, 3 TM MFDs

With that rig you should be able to run it and visually it should be far superior to the rift. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
Harlikwin Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Look here at 14.30min for a benchmark Struggles having DCS at 45fps True that his rig is only a 1080ti and not optimized settings But can you even buy one of these ??? Seems nowhere to be found He's also running 200% SS. So either 1.5x (steams 200%) or 2x (DCS 200%) the native resolution of the set. Which is an insane amount of pixels. And on a 1080 with god knows what settings. Also 45fps is pretty standard for most headsets in DCS these days. I would wait until the reverb is actually out later this month. But I bet your rig can handle it. I've got one on pre-order. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Harlikwin Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 What scares me with the HP reverb is performance Running twice 2160x2160 résolution is going to drain any system !!! Its alot of pixels, but I'm running a rift at PD2.0 (so 2160x2400) and its fine even with all the super sampling overhead and a decent amount of eye candy, and I'm generally running ~70% GPU utilized (spikes get to 100, and I've seen it as low as 50%) Note, this is before our glorious VR patch. dburne Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 I would not rule out Rift S, Image clarity is pretty sweet and with a decent rig able to still run higher graphics settings which I personally like.
