A great start bud.

You might want to check out the model, it looks like some of the polys and verts don't quite line up and you're getting the background showing through the plane (starboard air intake). Also where the wings sweep back.

Ya, I see a hole along the wing edge too. I was so concerned with the animations that I missed those.

So other than the crappy texture mapping, what would I change about the pilots?

Thanks guys for the input.

2 or 3k? The pilot's face is 11k, lol. Total is over 50k.

Oh, I'm very sorry, I'm not a 3d Modeller))) I don't want to offend you, but your model looks like low-poly:huh:

No problem, my friend. Actually it's all in the texture mapping that makes it look good or bad, I think. I have seen very low poly models that had such a great skin that they looked like they had a 100k polys.

Ok , I agree - so, we can expect a new Cat's model soon? That would be awesome.

If this is your first project, great, everyone has to start somewhere. Please don't take this the wrong way, just trying to give you some helpful tips, but at 50k poly and your F-14 still kind of looks low poly, then there is something wrong there. First, the shape of the F-14 needs to be corrected. Go to this thread

http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=23968

You can get a good F-14 layouts from one of those sites.

A real F-14 model should look something similar to this

Sadly this project was canceled because the author felt something was wrong with it.

It is low poly to me.. and I am a 3dmodeler. If you say it's 50k polys then they're all hidden.

My rig specs:

Maybe he threw a meshsmooth over something with a lot of poly's. That can sometimes throw things out a little bit. It happened with the nose of my boeing 737-200.

If you did, use less poly, THEN apply a mesh smooth to the areas you want to smooth out.

But don't apply it more than once, otherwise you will have some seriously high (for lomac standards) poly model.

That skin is improving lol but it kinda looks like you've just pasted your reference material onto the UV Map and left it.

No worries if you did, but you might want to sharpen up those edges.

Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal?

And for a bit of reference:

this is what you need to beat:

the current model ;) .

If you loose time with WIP threads/posts/pictures that shows less than the current model people will not take you serioulsy.

Isn't that the stock F-14 from the Game?

Anyway, you guys had me wondering all night about the poly count issue and why you would think it looked like a low poly model when it has so many. So I did some checking and you are right. All body surfaces parts, fusalage, wings canopy etc. are only 7K. Everything else, crew, landing gear is 60K. The pilot's face, just the little part between the visor and oxigen mask is 11K. The two back tires/wheels are 9K.

It's really good that you put some time in this, but honestly stock model with good skin will look better then this. There's something totally wrong with this model (measures, proportions?), not that it is low poly, but something just doesn't look right.
