since the latest update 2.5.5 I noticed that the FCS doesnt maintain the AOA after trim. In fact, it seems that the trim has no impact. Before, I could tap the trim up a few times and the FCS will hold any AOA and all I need is to adjust power. What happened to that? is it only me?

It seems that AoA requirements for successful arrested landings have also been tightened up. The flight model feels different. Less forgiving around the boat.

the first thing I did after the update was to load the PG Case 1 Instant action. I did a lap around the boat and noticed no problems with trimming for on speed AOA. I had to make little to no corrections for speed/AOA through the 180, and I was able to control glide path with throttle input. I don't know if it was a FM change or luck on my part but I caught the 3rd wire on the first attempt!

Flaps inoperative during landing. Had to do a no flap landing, overran runway and ejected. First time flaps inoperative. No Master caution warning.

You should check your control settings. Trim works fine. As does SB.

thanks for the advice, but as you can imagine i have checked that, and I even tried remap them (the trim) still no joy...

regarding the airbrakes, they deploy but they barely slow down the jet now...

Did you try a repair? Otherwise, i'm not sure what to suggest? Both work fine for me.

Maybe a reinstall?

I didn't add the 2.5.5 update as I was on the stable version. I went ahead and deleted the stable version completely and installed the open beta. Of course, when done I was on 2.5.5 and it only added 4Gb to my old stable version.

so, repair didnt help however, I know what was the issue. For some reasons, "game flight mode" was ticked and that's why my trims and airbrakes were not working correctly...

i dont know what ticked that, I never used game flight mode at all... weird.

On the same topic, I saw that there is an auto trim box to check in the options now. Haven’t tried it to see what it does. But, I could imagine that if that got checked and you didn’t know about it, that would be as frustrating to figure out as the above problem.

.... ah, got it.

...it was a bit of a surprise to see that as it is out of the norm. Good to hear its not intended to change the fundamentals of the aircraft.

Thanks bud.

It's a general setting. I'm not sure it applies to all planes. We have the choice to not choose it, so it's not a big deal.

As a principal, im just no much of a fan for making things easier to accommodate and/ or foster lack of ability. The entire point of these twitch games is to develop a skill set i thought. "Easy modes" kind of defeat this. It is interesting to see where people demand "realism " and then choose not to.

But i am old, games have changed, etc etc ..

You’re not alone. I agree.

It's possible to switch branches on the same install apparently, thought I didn't bother with it yet so I'm not sure what file/entry you have to change.

MAC being a separate install and not a DCS module was part of that compromise with the DCS community I believe, I wasn't that paying attention to that area the peak of those discussions happened, so I don't know in detail.

These things may be removed once MAC releases, or once the testing ends, would make sense yes.

Hey Lex,

This is something we are developing in support of Modern Air Combat. We are using DCS as a test platform.

Thanks

Speaking about removal ... what about Game Mode and Game-Mode controls in the options, would that all be removed from DCS and added/integrated/morphed to MAC ?

I don't have a particular opinion, just asking. Would make sense tho, would make it easier to maintain DCS if there's less modes and combination to worry about, for example.

Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, P-47, FC3, SC, CA, WW2AP, CE2. Terrains: NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf, Syria

I have to agree here as well.

I have noticed that too because even with trim the nose still rises so there is a problem with the FM. The Hornet has an exact trim number for weight, when set the nose should not be rising at all, instead the FBW should maintain the aircrafts attitude throughout the flight once trim is set. It seems to go through a process where the nose rises, you push it back down to AoA then it rises again and the movement reduces until it holds which is not accurate for FBW. It should be that you set trim and it remains where it is without the nose rising.
