Force_Feedback Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I meant my ride in a Mi-6, which is known as the Korova, Cow, nothing NATO about it. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Mechanist Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 The Mi-6 is one big mother....er. Also has a very impressive interior :) Oh in the first picture, that is me, i was 193 cm tall, to compare the sizes. "Fighters make movies, bombers make history."
Geier Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 Indeed... Maybe they're left something there and went back :D LOL:P I suppose this foto made from our AFB in Tadjikistan, where the Su25 unit is based. The surface of Tadj is very simmilar to Afgh one
Avimimus Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Here is a question: I have seen Mi-8s with a fairly standard looking door gun (I am not sure what make), as well as PKB window guns and a gun mounted in the nose. Now would it be possible to combine all three (so as to have four-five flexible machine guns?)
Geier Posted October 13, 2007 Author Posted October 13, 2007 Here is a question: I have seen Mi-8s with a fairly standard looking door gun (I am not sure what make), as well as PKT ;) window guns and a gun mounted in the nose. Now would it be possible to combine all three (so as to have four-five flexible machine guns?) Sure, I suppose there's no problem to make such mode...
muamshai Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 keep those sexy pictures coming. They are giving me a boner This space is available for your advertisement
Vekkinho Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 These pics are not from Afghanistan but you'll see the size of Mi-6 here. Rumour has it that this bird helped in rescue of wounded after Chernobyl incident. It's stationed for last 15 years in Lucko helicopter AB near Zagreb. I work there and pics were taken on Dacember 31st as we had a celebration there. Personell from Lucko AB plans on making a caffe-bar out of Mi-6 :P (BTW that's me in those pics) Check it on Google maps: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=45.768814,15.844774&spn=0.001635,0.003589&t=h&z=18 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

nscode Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 I am so ashamed right now about my Mi-8 wing question earlier  But from that angle they really look alike :D and I never noticed the wings on the Mi-6. It's shear size leaves you just wondering... and unable to notice "details" :) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
John Cool Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 An unusual drawing of Mi-24 gunship in action in Afganistan. Some other drawings by Renat Shafikov. 1 МАССАНДРА: "Микоян Артём Славный Сын Армянского Народа Дарит Радость Авиаторам".
Mnemonic Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Here, some of mine drawings dedicated to Afghanistan war. I've posted them earlier... but I think It would be a proper place to post them again... 1

Geier Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Needless to say, it's totally different now. Been there only a few days, and that place is HUGE. Did you make fotos?:P And which they still do today.... Afg is very specific place to have a war there:)
CE_Mikemonster Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Of course, but almost all support came through Pakistan. Yet Soviets didn't wage this war like US in Vietnam because they didn't attack Pakistan for example. It isn't clear that Soviets could surely win in Afghanistan by war's escalation but it is clear they were doomed to defeat fighting in this cowardly minimal manner. In such approach USSR wouldn't send its troops there at all! I'm not sure if a military defeat of Pakistan would have made any difference on the subject of training and arms from Pakistan to the Muhajadin. The areas bordering Afghanistan, whilst still technically Pakistani territory, are essentially self-governed by local warlords - much like Afghanistan. Even if Pakistan WERE sympathetic to the Russian cause and WANTED to stop the border tribes supporting the Muhajadin they would have had to fight these tribes (and essentially replicate Russia's war in Afghanistan). I think we are looking at things with slightly Western eyes here, and some thought needs to be given to the 'tribal topography.' As for heroin, AFAIK it was grown in Afghanistan and processed in Pakistan by warlords, with the CIA providing access to transport etc. OT, but the Taliban banned Poppy production in 2000, leaving the CIA with a potential $18 Billion deficit. Add to this the fact that they denied permission for oil pipelines to run across the north of the country, and suddenly you'll find that a regime change is quite necessary.. I'm happy to be corrected on anything I say, but as we are discussing history people need to remain objective. I'm sure that many people in the US will not like presumptions that the CIA support drug trafficking. Much like a Russian citizen who's father served in the armed forces may not like somebody presuming that Soviet soldiers were disposable. So please can people not get slightly offended and defensive when views are offered? If a theory is incorrect an objective audience will not take it personally (and the person with the incorrect theory can stand corrected without feeling somebody has insulted their intelligence). Sorry if that's preachy lol, With respect, MM :) Too many cowboys. Not enough indians. GO APE SH*T
uhoh7 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Just click on my Myspace link, and on "Pics" of "today's" Afghanistan. I'm assuming that you've served? Judging by the pics alot of parallels to what I see and what they show, as well as major differences. Overall.... comparing the Soviet "occupation" and fighting shows that while we're there, we have more capable aircraft. SIGINT stuff we do shows us that whenever aircraft show up, they really run and hide, but we're talking of differing technologies as well. The Mi-24 was always the beast of an aircraft, but it relied on visual mainly acquisition and whatever other sensors they have. The Kiowas and Apaches here, with the ability to switch spectrums... holds a bit of difference between your pictures, and the few videos I see. Alot of it goes towards training. Such as the pic with the Mi-24s running up on the Mujhadeen and shooting them up. We do the same, but you have to realize that the helo pilots also observer for artillery/mortars. And the soldiers overall better trained than the conscripts of the Soviet army, and other stuff. There's alot I cannot go into as far as procedures, but I will say Geier, it does require alot of speed, effort, and timing in order to get the jokers..... But you are right, Afghanistan? It's a real specific place to conduct a war. I've been to Iraq, and this is just totally different. How is winter in the Korengal? Incredible place.
