Kenan Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Hey Bart, yep no issues here. Just a quick one. I recently sold my CV1 and got the rift s the dials, numbers everything are now crystal clear. In case you were thinking of upgrading. I got the Rift S and honestly didn't notice much of a difference in that department..but maybe I had bigger expectations? From your signature pic I see you wear glasses (I do too) are they for distance ie: driving or reading? I have to use my glasses in the headset to get the clarity. I'm sure you know all this but just a point. Fighter Pilot Podcast.
ctguy1955 Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 (edited) The problem is that I dont have the AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING available to install on #5 Centerline pylon. That is why I cant get the LTDR switch to arm, centerline 5 can only have gas and bombs. And Thank You all for trying to help. Ive downloaded the latest updates and nvidia drivers and the litening Pod is just not available. Edited August 4, 2019 by ctguy1955

I mean, Rift (both CV1 and now S) are fine with glasses (at least for me). The resolution and "better clarity" mentioned by some folks with Rift S..I just don't see it..and if it's there..it's marginal.. The resolution and "better clarity" mentioned by some folks with Rift S..I just don't see it..and if it's there..it's marginal.. I use regular Rift (I don't know if that's CV1 or something newer... it's not S) and I'll stick with it for now. Few weeks ago I had a chance to try Pimax 5k+ on my rig and of course... I was blown away by FOV (all 3 of them) and clarity but... on my current setup the performance is unacceptable. There is a possibility I haven't tweaked the settings properly but even in the standard FOV there was too much jittering when looking to the side. I mostly fly CAS and it involves lots of rapid side to side head movements. With the Rift I can snap my head from one side to another and immediately focus and lock my eyes on any object. There is no fuzziness or jitters. I don't use AA of any kind, just PD set to 1.7 well, I guess that's similar to supersampling.

Possibility you’re not in the sweet spot for the Rift-S and that’s why you’re not seeing the improvement. I saw a big jump from the CV1 to the Rift-S honestly. I saw a big jump from the CV1 to the Rift-S honestly. IPD shouldn't affect the clarity, only the FoV. Sweet spot may well be the issue. I agree that something is not quite right if he is not seeing a noticable improvement, though I didn't seem to have the issues most were with instrument clarity in the CV1, the S was definitely a step up and afaic the Index is even more (but at a price). IPD does effect clarity if it’s outside the relatively narrow usable IPD range of the Rift-S. Unlike the CV-1 the Rift-S doesn’t have movable lenses so if you have a wide or narrow IPD the image will be much worse then it should be. I know this because family members with extremes of IPD (both narrow and wide) have tried my Rift-S and found the image of be significantly worse then they could achieve with the adjustable Rift CV-1.
