Harlikwin Posted August 21, 2019 Author Posted August 21, 2019 How did I miss that! Excellent. Hopefully this means some better EW modeling is coming. Sierra99 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Those damn things caused problems during Allied Force. We had some cases of the FBW boom on the KC-10 getting squirrelly near precontact. Had to start specifically asking if it was off if we had issues... But I'm glad we're getting them! sirrah Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 I recently read about these for the first time in Dan Hampton's Viper Pilot. Before I had no knowledge about their existence and asked myself the exact same question as Harlikwin (funny to see I was not the only one :D) Got me wondering though.. Are (or were?) these "buddies" only used on the F-16? And if so, why not on e.g. the Hornet? According to the Wiki "The ALE-50 towed decoy is currently operational on the F-16, F/A-18E/F, and B-1B aircraft" From the website "The system can be used on virtually any airborne platform, and it is operational on the F-16, F/A-18E/F and B-1B aircraft. More than 25,000 have been delivered." The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. I'm reading Dan Hampton's book now, he also used them on a recce mission (he encountered an Iraqi armoured division and was under heavy ground fire). 1
