JMPS - lines

In the real world Joint Mission Planning System and the Viper there is a set of lines and routes available to plan and write to the Digital Transfer Cartridge. It would be nice to be able to have more lines displayed on the HSD page rather than just your one route. It is useful to define Military Operating Areas for example, No Fly Zones, tanker areas or other defined airspaces through an air coordination order.

 

So my wish is to have a separate Mission Planning tool apart from the Mission Builder that has the ability to plan more routes and lines and import into the aircraft, along with target coordinates (disconnected routes) and other points of interests. This applies to other aircraft as well.

It does have an HSD page though, which is exactly what displays this kind of data.

You completely missed the point.

The HSI on the F-16 is called HSD (basically the same thing).

The HDS displays your flight-plan, waypoints, SAM/threat circles, your radar coverage and locked radar contacts, datalink contacts such as the position of your wingmen and their A-A radar targets etc.

It is by all means very similar to the SA page in the Hornet, minus the moving map.

 

There are two very useful features, given the lack of a moving map:

 

1. custom dashed lines can be drawn anywhere during the planning phase, and will be displayed in the HSD. These can be used to create areas (boxes), or as single lines, for example to mark the boundary where the FLOT starts.

 

2. Threat circles, according to where the threat is and what type of threat, you can place a sort of mark point that will display with the threat name and a yellow circle that becomes red if you enter it. These points can also be used just as a name tag (without circle) that can be useful to place names of cities or points of interest.

 

The above makes the moving map much less necessary and allows very precise mission planning.

very nice explained and I think DCS could create a tool or UI option to make uploaded in F-16 Data Transfer Cartridge (DTC)

Sorry, it's been awhile since I worked with the jet so I mispelled HSI, i meant the HSD of course. And the lack of a map makes the lines feature an absolute must IRL, like bkthunder underscores in his post. Will update 1st post to reflect the change

I mean both, NAV lines and geo lines, but also points like targets and threats. In JMPS (unclass) you can assign different functions to "lines" and have them appear with different looks, differentiating a route (waypoints) from a FLOT, or a FAOR or whatever you like (dashed - full, red,yellow cyan etc).

Indeed, a core function and extremely basic, but alas not found in DCS yet, sadly.

Hopefully that and other things are on the way for the Viper now that the Hornet is in good shape to capture that Top Gun 2 interest/money.
