topol-m Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Given the lack of canards and the much, much wider body, I doubt you'd see an F-22 doing a cobra anytime soon. The cobra is not an issue for the F-22: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

mikoyan Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Actually basic Su-27 is not able to do what F-22 presented here. But the su-30mki and su-35 can. This is an interesting discussion...all we can do is speculate. The raptor seems to be less agile on the z axis for example here look at the rotation rate 6:15 raptor: 4:27 almost the same move; the raptor is slower. But the mki lacks the power and wing area of the raptor, but at the same time it has that lifting body; It also lacks the complexity of surfaces that the raptor has; rudders used for pitch and yaw at the same time; two piece ailerons. It must be a better configurations since sukhoi used almost the same set up for the t-50. (also note the crazy flutter on the vertical tails on the su-30!) There is a video of the f-35 test pilot saying that most of the tvc moves of the flankers are mostly inertia moves and not controlled like for example the raptor, kinda weird to claim that without flying both types of airplanes; he also says that the russians do the cobra at idle for fear of asymmetric thrust from the engines; I don't know about that; since I saw that russian pilots uses the throttles to keep the airplane straight; maybe the raptor does that for the pilot? Now here is the su-35 the move at 2:15 is kinda crazy! also note that the su-35 recovers speed faster than the su-30mk
hitman Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 ^^ Was a ATR-72. Relatively new planes. Wonder what happened. They said de-icing the aircraft incorrectly was at fault. Dont know how hard it is to de-ice an aircraft, you just spray ethylene glycol all over the plane. Intel 13900k @ 5.8ghz | 64gb GSkill Trident Z | MSI z790 Meg ACE | Zotac RTX4090 | Asus 1000w psu | Slaw RX Viper 2 pedals | VPForce Rhino/VKB MCE Ultimate + STECS Mk2 MAX / Virpil MongoosT50+ MongoosT50CM | Virpil TCS+/ AH64D grip/custom AH64D TEDAC | Samsung Odyssey G9 + Odyssey Ark | Next Level Racing Flight Seat Pro | WinWing F-18 MIPS | No more VR for this pilot.

Bucic Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) Ria Novosti said the pilot opted not to de-ice at all. Fail pilot. What did you expect? The accident happened East of the Oder river :music_whistling: And BTW, have you guys noted age of the both pilots? joey45 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 ..... have you guys noted age of the both pilots? No, where?
