Hi guys,

regarding HUD, i'm used to the M2kc and the ones in the A320/B787...

The chevrons gives to the pilot the information on the current acceleration of the aircraft:

above FPV : accel

Below FPV: Decel

Is there something similar in the Viper ?

Speed tape on the HUD is the closest thing you'll get. Basically fulfills the same function. Just requires some readjustment.

Yeah you have to see if the speed is increasing or decreasing or stable

It's a shame they haven't thought of something like the mirage 2000

It's a shame, when I first tried the Mirage I was pleasantly surprised at such a basic but useful feature of the HUD, and bewildered that so many other planes I've simulated flying do not have it. My understanding is that Super Hornets and Lightnings do it now, at least in landing configuration, not sure what else.

if your speed is changing rapidly, you will see the tape moving, but for minor accelerations/decelerations, like when you are doing AAR, there isn't an indicator that shows you which it is.

you can see that at each side of the FPV ( flight Path Vector) there is a triangle. It is really useful to make precise thrust changes espcially during approach, flight formation...

if these traingle are aligned with the horzontal line of the FPV: no acceleration, plane will maintain current speed

If is it above, you are accelerating and vice versa and the more above it is, the more you are accelerating and vice versa.

I was wondering if there is a such feature in the F16

Didn't even know there are HUDs for airliners. Just had a look and noticed more commonalities than just the acceleration chevrons, like the synthetic runway or that inverted T for max pitch on landings. Probably the HUD comes from the very same manufacturer. And by the way, I really like it.

For the small changes you'd have a butt meter IRL.

Even the most stupid pilot knows if his plane is accelerating or decelerating ;)

This thing is usually being called 'trend vector' and it shows the speed that the aircraft will be at after 10sec with the current accel/decel rate.

It's more or less the attempt to simulate the clarity of the needle movement of a 'real' ASI.

yeah more about that, you you can easily fine tuned the throttle position to maintain speed

This is called a power carat. Neither the F-16 nor the legacy Hornet have this. The Super Hornet does, though, as does the F-35 if one of my jet friends is to be believed.
