streakeagle Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 That looks great, but I think I like my metal one better despite not actually being black. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

aniron Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) Real world flight recorders (a.k.a. black boxes) are orange so that they can more easily be found after a plane crash. Edited October 21, 2019 by aniron
Outlaw24 Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 I think the orange ones look more authentic. VampireNZ Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Awesome - so does that mean we all now have a limited edition, no longer available, authentic orange metal VKB Black Box - nice! Vampire
rrohde Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Awesome - so does that mean we all now have a limited edition, no longer available, authentic orange metal VKB Black Box - nice! Seems so. As one who has more than once stepped on his VKB Blackbox getting in-and-out of his simpit, I kinda support the notion of having continued making them from metal... oh well. :) (on the other hand, I totally support progress in terms of features and functionality) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com

streakeagle Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 The inside is more important than the outside. If the newer ones with plastic cases are better in a significant way, I will surely end up with one or two of them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Lombra Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 The inside is more important than the outside. Why you need a sturdy metal case to protect said inside. :)
Outlaw24 Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Why you need a sturdy metal case to protect said inside. :) I agree and love the orange metal case, maybe they can make it an option. AeroGator Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Bye bye orange black box, welcome brave new black black box! We loved it, too. Seriously. The metal feel. The catchy color. The extra weight. The changes however are not just about redressing the old box into a plastic casing while keeping all the internals the same. There are big improvements inside. To list only a couple, the new BB provides for much higher current conductivity (1A vs 0.15A). Also, this little button simplifies setting up process a lot. We are sure the users will very soon feel how much more the new BB can afford them, and get used to the new looks and feeling. Sometimes moving ahead means leaving something behind. Sorry for that, little orange boxie. You will be dearly missed. > Best Regards from VKB Lair, AeroGator

Sorry for that, little orange boxie. You will be dearly missed. That's understandable, however, I do have a question. I currently have VKB Gunfighter Pro with the Orange Box will I receive the new black box when I purchase the upcomng throttle, or will both controls connect to the current (orange) box? dburne Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Yeah so should us metal black box owners consider replacing it with the new one? Or is the new one more for current sticks? Mine is a MK I Gunfighter Pro. AeroGator Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Could you not have done this while keeping the metal casing, though? In a word, no. If we could - do you think we wouldn't? > Best Regards from VKB Lair, AeroGator
AeroGator Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 OK, so does this mean an upgrade path available or recommended?Nope. The fact that there is something better, doesn't make what you already have worse. It does the job. It is not going to stop doing so. Why bother? Just we have long going plans for the future, and we know that the new BB will accommodate our (i.e., your) needs better when working with the park of new devices - most of them don't even exist other than on paper. Will the new BB help or will it be more convenient in current setups? - maybe, but not dramatically. Its higher currency conductivity means it can potentially serve as a hub. But not all current devices can support the concept "many peripherals, one BB". So whoever has the orange BB, enjoy it and worry not. Whoever buys new devices, will from some point receive new BBs - which by the way doesn't mean "starting tomorrow". > Best Regards from VKB Lair, AeroGator
Sokol1_br Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 Yeah so should us metal black box owners consider replacing it with the new one? If you are not involved in advanced programming with VKB DevCFG no reason for get Black Bos with Njoy32NG, but if want is available in Aliexpress for $ 55.
Uxi Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Always thought it was curious the "black box" was orange and didn't make the transponder connection, though it seems obvious in retrospect. They were clearly going to need something else for the TECS to interface with other devices. My biggest nitpick has been the port labeled "pedals" instead of "rudder." ;) Specs & Wishlist: Core i9 9900k 5.0Ghz, Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero, 64GB G.Skill Trident 3600, Asus RoG Strix 3090 OC, 2TB x Samsung Evo 970 M.2 boot. Sokol1_br Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 They were clearly going to need something else for the TECS to interface with other devices. Posted by VKB in Il2sturmovik.ru Blackbox is a bus controller. Its main function is to receive data from the slave devices via the bus, calculate and send via USB. With maximum speed. Direct calculation on the blackbox of sensors, buttons, encoders spends resources. The modern concept of a control device is this. There are many small highly specialized powerful controllers that deal with certain tasks for which they are specialized and optimized. And they send this information over the shared bus to the main controller. The main controller receives this data, processes it and sends it to the computer. This technology allows you to get maximum performance, flexibility and versatility. ... Like a modern car. Each node has its own microcontroller and communicates with the main one via a common CAN bus. Only our tire is more "high-speed"))))
