Tusker Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 There are no stupid questions.... only stupid people. I run the game full-screen at max resolution on a 16:9 monitor. If I want to make adjustments to Track IR, SRS or other running apps, I seem to have to completely exit out of the game, because I can't find a way to minimize the running game to get to other apps. What am I missing? Is there a way to exit out of full-screen game to get access to other apps, and then re-enter full-screen again? eric [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ----------------------- i9 9900K | Dual NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 8GB | 64 GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz | 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (Boot) + 2TB 7200RPM 3.5" SATA HDD | 850 Watt Power Supply with Liquid Cooling | Thrustmaster F/A-18C Hornet™ HOTAS Add-On Grip | TPR Pendular Rudders | Warthog Dual Throttles | Track IR5 | Foxx Mounts Stick and Throttle | Massdrop AKG K7XX w SBX G6 DAC | Corsair K70 RGB Platinum | G903 Lightspeed Wireless Mouse | Acer XR382CQK
Moafuleum Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 There is, it works well with Alt+Tab. I am using the standalone. If it doesn't work the first time (still not seing the task bar) do it several times. Then you can get to tze desktop by klicking on the lower right corner on the task bar. The steam version seems to not have these inconvenience at all as i heard
Bagpipe Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Do not alt-tab during loading screens. If you press Alt+Tab and nothing happens, hit the windows key on your keyboard and it will show the start menu. Once you open, say a web browser window, you can alt-tab freely back and forth. The trick is to have something opened to alt-tab to before running DCS
Tomas9970 Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 What I like to do is to open the task manager with Ctrl-Shift-Escape and then alt-tab to it. That brings up the task bar.
Wolf359 Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 As long as you leave the software running in an open window (not minimized to the task bar), then ALT+TAB will navigate you through the open windows. I do it all the time if I am running a tutorial on Youtube. So set TrackIR NOT to minimize to the task bar, then you can navigate to it as needed. Same if you are using VoiceAttack. Tusker Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 Thanks guys. It was a real pain to Exit DCS every time I wanted to do something in SRS, TrackIR, VA, etc... Worrazen Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) It's not working fine, DCS is always glued on top whatever you do, it's not really minimized, just hidden behind, it's pretty annoying if you ask me honestly. I've tried all kinds of hotkeys and nothing works, ofcourse Lwin key being used and I think I remember seeing an option wether or not to disable it's true function but I forgot, but since the game is made to use LWIN then it's not proper to look for workaround, it should work with some other alternative method out of the box. Lange_666 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 What about removing the full screen option? If the selected resolution is the same as the full screen one, what's the difference? I don't see any difference in game when using full screen or setting it to max res of the monitor (i don't run a resolution smaller then the native monitor resolution). Worrazen Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Fullscreen shouldn't have anytihng to do with being able to minimize or not, and whether it's always-on-top or not. There's different types of fullscren/windowed and when it comes to newer APIs it was kind of a mix between Nvidia and AMD not everyone supporting everything. I don't normally use anything else except exclusive fullscreen 1440p not just in DCS, unless I would need to do some diagnostics and benchmarking or troubleshooting then I used windowed 1080p for viewing other utilities along the way. Alt+Enter has been the switch historically to switch in-out of exclusive fullscreen to windowed fullscreen but in DCS it makes no visible difference, you can't really know which way it is since the screen blinks and the window flashes, but it looks exactly the same, is it exclusive or not, I haven't found the difference. I hope this whole thing will be overhauled with the Vulkan API update, and we should have clear indications which mode is it running, the sys info should be updated as well to add more info and perhaps even more diagnostic info like in other modern games overlays. CBStu Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 I have the screen resolution set to the standard 1920x1080 in Windows. I have the resolution in the DCS Options/System set to 1920x1040 and the 'Full Screen' is not checked. This keeps the lower bar across the screen visible at all times. I put the DCS and TIR icon in the bar. I also have my browser and 'File Explorer' buttons there. So I can hit pause in DCS, adjust TIR, or go to youtube tutorial videos, or look up things I have saved such as Chuck's FA-18 guide.

Even with nothing running in the background, in windows if you alt-tab it will select between the desktop and the application, once you hit alt-tab once you have selected the desktop but not displayed it in this case, you then press LWin key and it opens start menu where you can access anything else you need to do. I don't see the problem?

Nealius Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 The problem is usually when DCS experiences a crash. I am unable to alt-tab to any window. LWin key does nothing. I can't even get it to alt-tab to the "do you want to send a crash report" window to get the game to close. I have to hard-restart my computer any time this happens. In every other application, when there is a crash or freeze, alt-tab does not experience this behavior.
Bagpipe Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 If you can;t ctrl, alt, delete to task manager when the game crashes then i would say there is something not right with your windows potentially
Nealius Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I can ctrl+alt+del to task manager, but I cannot make the task manager window the focus because DCS refuses to minimize.
