Deigs Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Helicopter simulators are my gaming bread n butter. I love them. So, on the release of DCS: Black Shark (counting down the weeks) I was thinking of updating my current dodgy Logitech Wingman Pro, which I have had for about 5 years, to something more relevant. The immersion factor of gaming with these devices is an important aspect of enjoying this grand hobby of ours. So my fellow gamers, what joystick do you recommend for enjoying chopper sims? I found the ‘MRVC Helicopter USB Controls’ at http://www.simcontrol.co.uk/newheli.htm . It looks pretty cool and I am saving my pennies for this, but is there anything cheaper (it's about 1500 pounds), better, or recommended that would surpass this rig? I'm also keen to see what the developer's and beta testers use on the daily grinding (lucky sods) on playing DCS: BS? What do you use? 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 161 Squadron Australia's DCS Community
VMFA117_Poko Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Nice kit! Thanks a lot for info and welcome Deigs.
ED Team JimMack Posted December 21, 2007 ED Team Posted December 21, 2007 If it is of interest, we have tested Black Shark with the MRCV, and it works brilliantly, if you can afford Ј1,500, but that cost includes pneumatic feedback etc. There are other cheaper options, see work being carried out by Urze. RvETito Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 That's nice but I would like to see a lot more buttons aka HOCAS conception for those money. The collective definately needs buttons and other stuff. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. brewber19 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 that does look sweet. pity it isnt made, or we can't easily retrofit it, with CH gear :( [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 487th Helicopter Attack Regiment, of the VVS504 Red Hammers
urze Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 That's nice but I would like to see a lot more buttons aka HOCAS conception for those money. The collective definately needs buttons and other stuff. This will be available in March/April 2008. The layout may a little differ from the image but the overall function will be the same. Targeting price is between 100 to 150 €. A universal cyclic extension for the X52 and CH-Fighterstick is in Development. Please understand that I can't give clearer information at the moment . hitman Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I just might have to get a cyclic from you urze. I might not get BS, but I can definately use it for FSX and XPlane.
urze Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 (edited) I'm plased to read your comment, Hitman. This is one of the first pics of the final 'X52 Flightstick Extension' : The video and the 'data sheet' on my site shows up to now a 'beta'. But right now I'm editing the final instruction video. hitman Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Do you connect your collective to the cyclic, or can you hook your collective into a usb port? I cant see me tearing my X52 pro apart if I do get something like that...

-Skipper- Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Urze, your stick extension for the Cougar just rules. It looks very professional and clean! Do you have any idea yet, when you will be able to offer them? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RobGordon Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) Hey urze, just a quick question. How did you make that attachment thingy for the X52? It seems to have the exact form of that hole in the side of the X52 throttle. Thanks! Edited October 20, 2008 by RobGordon [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
urze Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 (edited) It's a sort of die-casting.;) And By the way: The Cougar extension is available. Edited October 22, 2008 by urze Leftside Limited - ideas and solutions
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Is the X-52 extension already out as well? Really interested in that set up! Great stuff in any case! http://dcs-mercenaries.com/ USA Squad

Kuky Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 That's pretty interesting extension for the Cougar Urze... I like the idea you can twist the stick a bit as well and to your own liking. But to give a note which I think is required, about long extension. I don't think it would work well with moded Cougar (modded wit IJ's NXT mod or similar) because of different way in which gimbal mechanics are setup and because with NXT mod the extra length of the stick would make the stick too easy to move and unstable in the centre. I remember IJ making extension for the stick as well (probably still does) and I remember him saying he would not recomend making extension more than 10cm or so because then the stick would start tilting due to springs not being able to hold it in centre position. Original Cougar mechanism however, should work for this much better as can be seen in demonstration video. 1 Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi MB | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC AIO 360 | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD x2 | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | HOTAS Cougar+MFG Crosswind ... and waiting on Pimax Crystal Super VR headset & DCS MiG-29A release

(Force sensor controlled) http://cougar.frugalsworld.com/fcc_mirv.php
crazysundog Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Is the FCC mod a forcefeedback mod? Or does the cougar come with forcefeedback? Thanks for any input...
Chibawang Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 No, not exactly... It isn't force feedback in the sense that it can hold trim position and move on it's own. It's a different system that closely mimics what is used in the real F-16. The stick only has a few cm's of play in it but it achieves far greater sensitivity and control because the degree of movement is calculated based on the ammount of pressure being put against the stick. This is much more managable by the human body allowing extremely precise control movements.
crazysundog Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Ok, I see.... It sounds really accurate, I would like to try one.
drummer Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Just to share a little nugget with you fellow simmers. I had an old X36 saitek throttle and stick unit laying around and inspired by Urze's work decided to Mod it to replicate a collective. I removed the throttle handle and attached it a metal pole. I retated it 90 degrees to the left [so pointing forwards] then 90 degrees so thumb on top. and then attached the pole to the base, soldering the 20 or so wires with extensions wires. The ergonmis feel great and it ll fits then hand shape great. [ to help you imagine the mini thumb joystick is now on top and my thumb on it facing forward] I now pull up the collective for power instead of back towards me with is a more natural and realistic experience. The only problem I had was that all the wires inside were one colour and despite having my own coding sytem I did screw up somewhere and mis mapped some of the wires. But a better cleverer person would have made a good job of it. So if you have an old unit [x 36/ or 45] then might be the work. I do have a x52 pro i use but the converted unit has a better feel.
