  1. 1. Do you think the BS should add options to use other units not air?

    • YES, give more options to play.

    • NO, never, it must use all resources in the air aspect.

    • Perhaps in the future, when the simulator this very advanced.

it's a massive departure from the stand alone Study Sim idea though..

I mean, we ALL want a hard core "study" detail sim coupled with a MMO environment with dozens and dozens of playable vehicles etc.., but the reality is, there is not a market to support the Millions of dollars/euro's/pounds/krona etc.. it would cost to develop and support (see WW2 online)..

You "might" be in with a chance if you created a sci-fi / space type environment with "Study Sim" level of (made up) details in the vehicle management, as there is a much larger pool of people who could get into that (see EVE online which has hardcore study sim type behavior in the form of economics and millions of subscribers).

The development time for something like that though is FAR in excess of what it takes to make the type of game DCS:BS will be (which in and of itself still takes a LOT of time and money I'm sure!).

Still...if ED keep building the DCS engine, and releasing / updating modules over the years, it could develop into something close to a "study Sim" MMO eventually?

For now, I'm totally delighted they are spending their time and resources to create a fantastic detailed Sim , regardless of what vehicle they are modelling.

I would like to see this kind of feature in the online part of BS. Lets be honest we all are going to be flying helo so it would bring more fun and skills to the game if we had like a commander who can move ground units into positions. And hide them as well. The commander could put AAA only a path where he thinks enemy BS will come from. If this was included into BS online this would be truly great. But one problem would be how would you pick a commander lol!

I think a digital combat simulation - online & offline - that offered the chance to use both air & ground units at study sim levels & forcing the player into using correct tactics would be a great idea - a more detailed version of games that already exist & are popular because of their perceived 'realism'.

I think adding human controlled AAA & SAM systems would remove the degree of predictability that people complain about with the present AI AAA & SAM systems & add immensely to the realism of the ground pounding aspect of the game, at the same time as it opened up new territory for simmers.

How to manage it would be tricky - no-one's going to want to sit for an hour & a half with a stinger on the off chance that someone is careless enough to fly into range. The obvious solution would be to have something like the code for two seaters off line - where the player can move between controlling assets & 'kick the AI out' while they use them (think Mr Smith in the matrix, but the AI come back when the player leaves the host).

Once realistic radar modelling is included, a player playing air defence could watch a radar screen (map) view, then select & give them instructions (radar off, radar on & open fire at such & such a range), or occupy units & take a place on the battle field, using the controls that that particular unit has as for the flight sim part of the game, much as a player will swap between pilot & wso in the AH-64, while at the same time giving orders to the rest of his flight.

Perhaps release the general control capability & one unit (Tunguska for arguments sake) together in an initial module (no air defence modules bought - no human air defence capability) & then add other units after as modules.

All this is a lot of coding though & as I've said before - I think that this is a good route to follow, but that ED would be best off finding a partner (again for arguments sake say steel beast's developers) and collaborating to find a way to let the two different scales of world & levels of detail needed mesh to gether seamlessly.

(Tanks would probably come a long way down the road after air defence units - anybody fancy playing a human controlled tank when the air defences are all AI controlled & you have a flight of player controlled A-10 or Su-25T heading your way ?)

I think it shouldn't be someone controlling a stinger I would have it as people who choose not to fly and just concentrate on just position units. I would have more fun doing that than flying the BS. Ambushing the enemy, watching tank battles, and even maybe do something different and take something out of the FPS genre and that taking over check points or using cities as a capture the flag type of deal with ground units. All being control by no flying people. You talk about total war this would be the sim of all sims.

It isn't really technically feasible. The terrain meshes that make FPS' so nice are much denser than what can be used in a flight sim.

Then again, if someone was to make a bridge between DCS, ARMA and STEEL BEASTS ... and Dangerous Waters ... :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

The first person shooter is the biggest market out there right now. My brother in law go one of the hot games this year for x-mass Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, cool game pretty difficult. If there was a way that a game like that could work with DCS and all the players were networked together some how then you would get many more people interested in flight simulators. Add the fact that you dont have to always be a grunt on the ground, jump into a hummer fire some rockets or call your buddies in for an air strike.

The Online Community and Support for DCS would grow. This makes sense from a purely business standpoint.

Yes I totally agree with your observations.. This will certainly make a more interesting simulation.. Its getting sort of old hearing from this small percentage of die hards here in this forum that are constantly murmuring about the good old days ..

Change is truly survival in today's market place.. I'm sure that we're seeing some well planned maneuvering by the Eagle Development Team that should ensure their existence as well as leadership in the future of electronic gaming..

I mean if your so inclined to make comments without thinking just to bring up your score.. Well that's actually called spamming.. So why don't you give us all a brake and go some where else... :megalol:

Are you agreeing Wdigman or not? Or is the first bit to him & the last bit talking to someone else?

Cheers.

If the main ED team could stay focussed on the Air side of the sim but then sub contract the land based element to a trusted third party it would maybe be something I could entertain :)

OFP done properly would be awesome, for me at least Armed Assualt and the proposed "game2" still dont appear capable of delivering the whole thing convincingly.

Nice poll and ideas etc, on the turn where the business vs resources.

Well a strike is in order for the resources to be put on the industrual scale and I'm thinking of starting one by not flying aerobatics for a week, and than commenting on what they (ED) have to do next.

Authentic or hypocritical, I like what they've done so far... or behind...business or club...don't know.

Consumers trust might be equal (=) to the developers needs one day.

I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully.

Im just happy to see a real study sim come out. I hope they take all the time they need to finish it right with no bugs. (plug and play baby):pilotfly:

No proper device for controlling ground units

(I bought unreal tournament 3 and HAlf life 2 epiode1,2 recently, but I can't play and enjoy it .

There's only visual cordinations. no physics no reality no calculation

.Rather old version of Unreal tournament was much more intense and immerse and thrilling. There's only visually real world in UT3 but game contents and physics are really poor and scanty.

I absolutley regret buying them impulsively..)

Simulation and shooter is fundamentally different.

IF we control human , what device will be proper? How can the game mimic rifle hadling? Can we mimic tank handling by any device?

Joystick is much closer to real stick of fighters than those above are.

Ground unit realization is much less convenient than air units.

(maybe I become changed. My part is not gorgeous shooter but simulation)

(I haven' played Arma yet, but I have played War Rock which is online First Person shooter and HEli, tanks, car are able to control, even A-10!!

IT's vicious itself. It just pretended aircrafts, tank controlling. Physics of Heli in Arma will not exceed a lot that in War Rock.

and mouse is not good device for simulation game)

I agree. I think this is the only way to make it possible. One developer can't afford to make every aspect on it's own, but if we could log on to... let's say "worldwar server" where us flyboys logon with our dcs sim and those tank fanatics logon with their whatever tank sim and the grunts logon with their fps game. So they carry on their mission until we come and ruin their day with our su-25 or a-10 or maybe save their asses depending on the mission.

Maybe this will not be for another 10 years but think how far we have come in the computer world the last 15 years. Remember this is what you were playing back then: http://www.migman.com/1990_combat.htm

When all AIR aspects will be very good, then why not to drive Strela or OSA, maybe even BUK and S300 in multi :D

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D
