[REPORTED]Auto bombing with MK82 always lands too far(long)

Recommended Posts

using Auto bombing with MK82 causes the bombs to alway fall long of the target.

Test:

I set a course line on a range target. slewed the tgp to the target, point locked, set 82 profile auto, nose, instant. designated the target. flew FL15 @325, set AP for Balt and maintained the fall line for auto drop. pickled the bomb with all parameters correct and it fell 256 ft long. repeated the profile and again the bomb fell 264 ft long. i then increased altitude to FL26 @300. dropped the bomb from the same profile and the bomb fell 425 ft long. by moving the the tgp lock 425 in front of the target i was able to get the bomb with 25 of the target but this seems incorrect to me. i also tried a 3 degree descent when pickling the bomb and this also landed 425 long on the target.

i get the variance of wind, plane alignment, and general pilot variables but this would only account for some variance in the bomb pattern not 400+ feet of consistantly fall long. definetly an issue.

i tried to upload a trk of this issue but the website would not let me upload it because of a missing security key of some sort. please pm a location i can upload a track to.

thanks,

Falcon

I have the same problem. Did a lot of testing first with loft bombing and then with normal level auto bombing. And the result was always the same, like Falcon.

i can not upload the track file as it seems to big even as a zip the file size is 106482 KB. please increase the upload size so i can get the file to you.

thanks

Hello,

Redkite posted a video long time ago about the CCRP bombing. Looks like the computation is performed with the aerodynamic of the Mk83. It's long for the Mk82 and slightly short for the mk 84.

That was a long time ago but not sure it was changed since.

Check around 12:00

In CCIP, the computation looks precise enough to me. Maybe also because of the higher angle the dispersion would be less.

I'm adding input and 2 tracks to this thread.

I've just tried with many mk82 drops and I've found that speed (or instead angle of attack) has an impact on dumb bomb auto release precision. (maybe for the reason given by Theranthil)

At the same parameters than OP (default weather on PG - 325 knots - 15K feet above sea/target -a T72B) I consistently hit a bit long. Not as far away as OP I think because (IDK which matters the most) I'm lasing before TGT designation, and I'm updating the TGT point 10 sec before TTR.

At just a lower speed (290 knots) / higher AOA, the hits are consistently near spot on or spot on.

Here 2 tracks (1 at 325 knots and 1 at 290 knots) with for each 2 bomb drops from opposite directions.

At 290 knots the T72B is destroyed on second hit.

Auto bomb is broken since day 1, impact error is always the same so there is no "dumb bomb factor" here, ED knows about it. It is WIP.

If you have it loaded use the laser to range find the target and it will be very accurate (with the dumb bombs). I think it's to do with the slant range helping the ccip calculate impact point.

There is another thread somewhere on here just can't find it right now.

**Edit** found it.

If you use WPDSG with perfect elevation the bug still exists so no, it is not a matter of slant range.

ED where is the update on this item?

Please remember free fall bombs are not precision, there will be a margin of error, depending on the delivery parameters.

thanks

Yes, but they land hundreds feet away! I can't hit power plants!! The mission is to fly low with pop up 2.5 miles from target, I can't use CCIP... I attached my tacview. Please let me know if I'm doing it wrong.

Edit: never mind, I flew it again at a slower speed, 1200AGL, and bombs landed on target. I think auto only works at a certain speed, I think around 350 Kias.

If the error is always the same then it is most likely due to a code bug. If the error is erratic then we could talk about a CEP simulation. But unfortunately the scenario is the first one.
