markturner1960 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Pretty pleased with myself....after a week spent trying to tweak my throttle and several hours of practice, I managed to successfully refuel today....... Big piece of the jigsaw and I feel great. Just wanted to share! System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.
Diesel_Thunder Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Awesome! That's my next major hurdle for me after I get consistent with carrier landings. Something I never had to worry about in the Hog (love that fuel efficiency), but since getting the Viper and Hornet I know I have to do AAR at some point in order to run longer missions. What did you have to do with your throttle? markturner1960 Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 (edited) Thanks, I had to increase the physical range by removing the detects and then adjust the axis to reflect the new physical range. Basically, more travel for a given effect, so easier to adjust the speed precisely. Much trickier to refuel in the Hornet than the viper. rob10 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Congrats! The good news is that as utterly frustrating/painful/time consuming to get those first couple of hookups it really does get easier after you them. And man is it a satisfying feeling when you can catch the basket 1st try and hold it through a turn to a full load. Enjoy!
Eaglewings Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 Congratulations Markturner1960. I know that feeling, I can still remember how elated I was when did my first AAR after months of hardware tweaking and frustrating attempts. Like taking down a mountain for me. Like others have said, do more of it and it get stuck on you. You can equally take the acquired knowledge and experience to other aircrafts aar mission with tremendous success rate. Lt_Jaeger Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 I went thrue the same, just recently I had my first hookup. Now I can stay on the hose long enough to fill the Tomcat from Bingo to Full with most of the times 1 reconnect. It is still demanding, but it gets better. Keep up the good work

Phantom453 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Congrats!! I know how that feels. I was so stoked the first time I completed an AAR, back when we only had the A-10C to do it with, I set my computer's screen saver to: "Mr Transfer Complete!!" I don't use that computer for DCS anymore, but it still has that screen saver! :smilewink:
markturner1960 Posted May 20, 2020 Author Posted May 20, 2020 Yes, just need to work on doing it consistently and not taking 15 minutes to connect.........:music_whistling: One thing, some aircraft seem much easier to connect and stay connected to.....I noticed a lot of turbulence behind the KC135 and in the banking turn, it’s very tricky to remain aligned, constantly fighting a sliding drift away from the direction the tanker is turning. And I guess doing it at night is something else entirely!!!! System specs: PC1 :Scan 3XS Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Corsair veng DDR4 3600, EVGA GTX 3090 Win 10, Quest Pro, Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo monitor.
