Hey all,

As VR simmers, we spend most time in the chair with head on a swivel looking for contacts. My experience has always been feeling the cable down over my shoulder and getting in way of a "free" experience where only the VR headset itself is felt. I just came up with this idea for a simple stick on the chair and use of bread ties to affix the cable. It works great and now I no longer feel the cable on my shoulder/neck, or it getting in way of the flight sim VR experience.

Perhaps if this "design" could be further refined to both handle cable mgmt, plus perhaps include an HMD mount option on back of chair, this could be something?!

Granted, or does something like this already exist commercially?

Here is a photo to show it... crude, but it works!

I let the cable of my Reverb run over my chest down to the side and imagine it to be the hose of my imaginary oxygen mask. But, I will certainly give this high tech stick method a go and see if it works better

(I reckon though, that the heavy Reverb cable will need more than that tiny stick you got there :P)

Nice one sir!

I have been meaning to build something like this but every time I start, I get distracted by trying to resolve the comfort issue at the same time.

Solution 1 – Mount VR headset on open-faced motorcycle helmet. Outcome: fair, helmet heavy, contact with skull/nose, minimal comfort gain.

Solution 2 – Mount VR headset on open-faced motorcycle helmet with built in magnets, implant opposing magnets in skull. Outcome: fair, helmet spins generating unwanted electricity, spinning induced nausea.

Solution 3 – Mount eyes inside VR headset. Outcome: unknown, awaiting optic nerve extension project completion.

I've been thinking of glueing something like these to the back of my chair already:

The main constraint probably would be that it still limits movement like leaning forward or the cord still getting caught somewhere past that thing and if it's just keeping to hit your neck all the time then. Another problem would be to find such a thing in the exact needed size... though that could be solved via 3d printing / shapeways.

I really hate it when looking around and not being able to turn back just because the friggin cord's stuck somewhere again. Happens way too often.

I know why I bought a Quest... but without extra oomph yet (Rebuff Reality powerbank is planned), the session limit is too short for DCS rdlaugh.png

Another idea would be to mount some kiwi pulleys to the chair to overcome the limitation problem but at least having the cord roughly in the same place. I mean, after all the Quest isn't the golden solution at least for flying. Works quite well with that one via Virtual Desktop, but even the x1600 image is compressed as much that it's just a tad better than the CV1's x1200 res. Try putting a Reverb's x2160 image though 866MBit/s icon_redface.gif

I guess it will take a while to get all those nice HMDs wireless without costing a fortune (like those Vive things).

I hang the cable over my seat from a bungee cord that is attached to the ceiling. The bungee cord gives a little if needed.

I just give the cable just enough slack to allow free movement, and then run it under my left leg and up my back. :D

^ My thinking too. It is sometimes annoying having the cable dangle, but look at how much a real fighter pilot has. So much easier to just pretend. :pilotfly:

...my Rift S solution (the cable comes out of the goggles on the left side):

I hold the cable with a clothespin on my shirt (at the right collarbone: opposite the area where the cable connects to the VR goggles). I leave a loop behind my neck, long enough to allow me to turn my head to check my six (in both directions 12-3-6 and 12-9-6, the loop distance will be determined when you try to find your six by turning your head to three - I don't know if I explained myself)

The rest of the cable goes down my side. I also don't have an excessive length as I always use the Rift S's sitting down and I have most of the cable behind hidden behind a cabinet on the right side of the pc tower.

I don't know if it's worth mentioning that the back of my chair is at shoulder height and doesn't have a headrest.

I've been here for over two years and I haven't found anything better?!

Most of the time, the cable doesn't bother me that much, but sometimes it snags or suddenly starts bothering me a lot. I sit in my home-made wooden frame sport scale F-4Martin-Baker ejection seat. All I would have to do is put a hook on top of it to get this benefit. I need to try it out.

A quick evaluation: I also use a headset for the mic and higher quality sound and the headset has a Track Clip Pro wired in parallel on it. I already have an audio extension, but it isn't long enough to reach behind me. But when it hangs straight down in front of my left shoulder, I don't feel it. So, what I need is a support rod extending up and forward from the top of the seat for the VR headset cable and a hook for hanging the VR headset on the seat when not in use. I need to get some stuff from Home Depot/Lowes anyway, so I will get what I need on my next grocery shopping excursion.
