mattag08 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 (edited) Is this implemented fully? If so, what does it do? I read the manual about it, but there's approximately 4 sentences that reference A/A mode and the QADL mode. I assume that since the LANTIRN in the F-14B isn't integrated with the AWG-9 there's no capability to slew the LANTIRN to a radar lock or vice versa and the LANTIRN can't be used for A/A in the way that the F/A-18 uses a TGP to VID aerial targets. shagrat Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 What for? You have the TCS....More range, better resolution for visual identification, IR image in black hot/white hot modes , better Zoom options... eatthis Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 lantirn has ir? cool 7700k @5ghz, 32gb 3200mhz ram, 2080ti, nvme drives, valve index vr
stormrider Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 What for? You have the TCS.... He asked for LANTIRN, not TCS. Banned by cunts.
WelshZeCorgi Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 not to mention better camera angles. TCS is a few degrees off nose, then you've completely lose track. With the LANTIRN, you can practically crank and still have the camera on target. (assuming you keep the target on the same side of the aircraft that the pod is on.)
eatthis Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 how do you use aa mode? 7700k @5ghz, 32gb 3200mhz ram, 2080ti, nvme drives, valve index vr

As far as I know it is implemented fully. I have played around with it some months ago and it seem to work just fine. It's usefulness is rather limited though, as it is not slewed to the radar, unlike the TCS, meaning you have to lock aircraft manually with the LANTIRN. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
QuiGon Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 how do you use aa mode? Airhunter Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 As far as I can see the only "benefit" would be the IR spectrum of the pod as it doesn't have a CCD mode.
Naquaii Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Yeah, the A/A mode is in fully but like some of you guys have said it has no way to be slaved to the current WCS track in the F-14 so it's completely manual. The reason for it not being extremely detailed in the manual is simply that there's not much to say. You point it at a target and do a point track as with a ground track just that it's optimised for an aerial target instead.

Naquaii Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Will it track a fighter? If you find it and manage to center it enough and do a point track, yes it will.
