Xxx Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I just installed the latest stable 2.5.6 Using AGM 65E SLAM, noted that its very inaccurate in TOO mode. The missile should engage a IR seeker in terminal phase. So designating TOO via IR lock from Litening should ensure a hit. Instead the missile veers off course. Using SLAM in PP is OK. So its only useful for fixed targets. Also noted the speed of the SLAM is very low. Launched at 300 Knots at 15000', the missile slows down to 250 knots for most of the distance to target. Its a sitting duck for SAM's! Also noted the attack altitude profile doesn't work. Low/Med/high is always medium, the missile doesn't change altitude. Is this still a work in progress? Just follow the instructions in Wags' SLAM Tutorial and you'll be happy with the results: Please note, that the SLAM isn't a fire-and-forget weapon. Tholozor Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Also noted the attack altitude profile doesn't work. Low/Med/high is always medium, the missile doesn't change altitude. Harpoon, and by extension SLAM, will never climb. They can only cruise at or below the specified FLT setting. So if you launch a SLAM below the FLT setting, it will stabilize just below the launch altitude. Xxx Posted July 26, 2020 Author Posted July 26, 2020 I watched Wags video and have a handle on it now. I can not steer the SLAM using the TDC. It just flies to the TOO, or very close! I find the DDI image indistinct? All I see are blobs? Guess that's realism for you! ex81 Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Very important to be sucesssful is to wait until you you clearly can identify the target on the screen. Then slew it the last few yards or meters (whatever it is) to let it hit "the twelve". In the beginning I slewed often too early and was frustated cause I could not "see" the target. Just be patient. All I see are blobs? If you see an image , then you've selected the wrong channel for the DL. You've to set the channel to the correct station #, i. e. station 8 = channel 8/displayed as CH 008 in the DL13 SMS page. but with lot of noise, then you have a bad signal to the SLAM. Note, that have the best results, when you either continue the course towards the target (SLAM on your 12) or make a 180° turn with A ANT on (OSB 02 on the DL13 SMS page), and your range is not too far to the SLAM (the closer the better quality). After releasing the SLAM slow down (~250 IAS) and stay eather on course or make a 180° turn and activate the aft antenna of the DataLink. Don't forget to bring the focus (diamond) onto the DDI with your SMS/DL13 page by pressing the proper SCS. And finally don't forget to hold "TDC Depress" while slewing the SLAM.
