ALL modules I know of autostart with LWin+Home and auto-shutdown with LWin+End.

Not to hijack this thread with another. “Start the engine yourself,” post but...

 

The harrier is easy to start.

 

I get it is intimidating to manual start multiple modules, but aircraft need the same systems to get running. Battery, fuel, and a way to crank the engine.

 

Your modern birds have some extra NAV/computer stuff like INS alignment, but they are still much the same

 

The harrier start procedure is as simple as that.

 

Battery>fuel>fuel cutoff>APU>starter switch. Then flip the up the idle cutoff and move the throttle. After that it’s as simple as turning on your MFDs, HUD and aligning.

 

I highly recommend the shorter 1 min tutorial videos out there. They are to the point and don’t waste your afternoon with tons of excess information.

 

It helps to use a checklist, but once you started one jet you can pretty much start them all. Also, starting them yourself helps you get familiar with the cockpit and systems, so you will better know what to do in an emergency.

Ya, the "learn how to start it manually", "autostart should be removed from the game" replies to any thread which mentions autostart are the most useless, self indulgent, and derailing replies on this forum. Also, they are the most predictable, and should earn a warning in my opinion.

It's under the Keyboard Macros section ... I think - not 100% sure about that section name. You can search your Keyboard.diff.lua in the Harrier controls directory within your saved games directory to see if there is an entry. Otherwise maybe you need to reset your controls for the Harrier?

 

 

Also I thought the description of the Harrier Cold and Dark instant action was funny.

I'm not wanting to know how to start it...I want to know WHY the auto start is missing in the control setup and why it doesn't work when pressing the default commands that are in the other modules. Its not an issue of learning it... its an issue of remembering it due to owning multiple modules. And I've yet to get an answer to a simple question.

Hmm...the save game folder for harrier keyboard is empty...But the folder IN THE MAIN INSTALL DIRECTOY FOR HARRIER has one ...and IT contains entry's for auto start....hmmmmm

Sorted...had to create new keyboard file by editing the keys in set up...now I have auto start...yeah.

 

This should be stickied somewhere to avoid this headache...better yet add the freaking auto start razbam!:mad:

Fixed it for ya. Doesn't matter if it's an easy start, OP was looking to autostart. Those of us who do have our own reasons, and "do a manual start " isn't the answer for some of us. It may be easy-ish if you tend to fly one or a few airframes, if you fly a lot -or all of them- then memorizing the start procedures for each isn't likely to happen. Especially if outside responsibilities &interests keep you from practicing these perishable skills as much as you'd like

So I, for giggles, took out the hack file and went back into setup to see what had changed, Guess what...it was there...only its under start up NOT auto start...and its not under cheats like all the other auto starts are in other modules. So I'm now wondering if it was there all along.....WTF

Oh for FK sake!!!! tried the "startup"...no go...doesn't work...so back to the hack.......which works as it should.

That happens sometimes. I noticed some functions have different names from one airframe to another (I think there's one where landing gear was labelled "undercarriage", for example. I can't remember which tho)

 

I've taken to relying on search function rather than scrolling through the lists

Honestly not trying to troll. I just wanted to point out the harrier is only 3 or 4 Mouse clicks to start the engine. I couldn’t remember if the harrier has auto start, but I might be thinking of the Tomcat.

It doesn't matter how many clicks if you can't remember what they are or where they are because you haven't flown it for months on end.which is common for most players as they own many modules. Auto start is a common feature in DCS and there's no reason it shouldn't work on the harrier.

Probably. Afaik, every aircraft in the game has an autostart. Excepting maybe when they FIRST come out, that stuff may not all be put together yet, but it's usually an early addition.

 

Are you just cruising around? If not... you can remember all the weapons and avionics, but not the 10 of so steps to start up, that is shared by virtually every aircraft and helo in existence? :p
