The Kola map is already under development by Orbx.

Yes but that is North and would not offer much for WW2. The Baltic sea coast would be very interesting.

maybe that could be extended via the North Sea to eastern England.  Could have long range bomber strikes into Hamburg and similar

That wound be amazing. Kent, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany. A big map but with a narrow focus on the Northern coastline and sea.

How about something like this?
ED said the NTTR wont get an upgrade, so why not make a new map? (Or a merge like Normandy 2.0? 😉 )
Such a map could offer a lot of bases and training grounds in the US. Besides the NTTR there could be NAS Fallon (the nowadays TOP GUN base), NAS Lemoore, MAS Miramar, Edwards AFB. And with the water it could provide many opportunities for Navy Squadrons to use it for their whole training sylllabus.

I'm absolutely certain this isn't an original idea on this forum, or for DCS, but... I'm seeing more reasons to strongly consider an:

"Iran Vs Iraq War 1980-88" map and campaign set!

Why?

Red Air, Green Air

F-5E Tigers, F-4 Phantoms and F-14 Tomcats Vs Mig21's, Mig 23's, Mirage F1's, and the Mig-25...

Real battles. Armor on armor, jets vs helos, jets vs jets vs tanks. Strikes on enemy airbases.

Same area could be used to recreate the 1991 and 2003 Iraq wars, albeit with rather lopsided power balance.

The map would be located north/west of the Persian Gulf map, and to the east of the Syria map, basically showing the land border between Iran and Iraq, and maybe the top  tip of the Persian Gulf waters, near Basra and Kuwait.

edit: Just learned of an attack by Iran onto Iraq's Osirak nuclear reactor, days after this war started, and the year before Israel attacked Osirak in 1981 :

A youtube video of a military exercise in Switzerland in 1964 got me thinking that this might make an interesting DCS map... sure, no wars there recently... but imagine the cold war potential for fictional scenarios... the limitations due to the terrain could really make the invading side REALLY work hard  for any gains at all!.

Now, yes, we don't have any Hunters in DCS at this time, but we do have Tigers and Hornets. And maybe someday we might get Mirage III as well...

That's OnReTech, and will probably be announced later this year. emoji1303.png

You seem to get insider information when it comes to terrains in DCS: you called the Fulda map being made by Ugra months before the official announcement, and now this... Colour me intrigued! 🤔

Oh, you didn't see the pictures OnReTech posted of Venice?
The posts were deleted from the forum, though a couple still exists on a forum that shall not be named. Just search for OnReTech and Balkan pictures.

Indeed, I just found them. I need to take a shower now though, after visiting that place… 🤐

Venice? Really? That's kinda cool!

Beautiful city I visited as a  little kid, yet I still remember that visit 50 years later!!!

I've said it before, but I think we don't so much "need" this map  or that map, but rather improved tools and resources to create maps MUCH faster and better. That way, we can get ALL the maps we are able to make!!!

Maybe an AI tool to take NASA topographical data and sat images just blend it together, fix the seams and blend it together... yea, might not be possible, but a lot is possible now that  wasn't in the past!

The Map tools (TDK) has on the ED side and we dont know what is the next iteration of that software, and what coming with the "whole earch" map on the future.

For sure, Silver, I'm just pointing out that all these map suggestions are really good, and many are great ideas for many reasons, and that it's my HOPE that map creation tools are improved and sped up, while maybe improving quality without requiring armies of artists and coders to create maps!  Meaning, some kind of transformative change, a giant leap of innovation for this purpose.

I don't know that my thought has any chance of ever happening, just expressing my desire for such improvements to dramatically increase the variety  of DCS maps to help fill in detailed regions for the "world map"

Back in the day, a certain civil aviation simulation from Washington State, that shall remain un-named, used to have a lot of user-made addon maps... individuals or small teams would create custom terrains, custom image overlays, and then even create custom highly  detailed airports and unique buildings. I'm sure it took them a long while to create such maps... but if they had much better tools enabled creation to be MUCH faster and easier...

I dunno, might be a silly idea that just won't be possible?

I just know that with current AI being able to assist people writing songs, creating still pictures of complex visuals, and even video presentations without human artists, I would think that an AI could be trained to help making many aerial photographs "blend" together without obvious "seams" in the missmatched pics. Same for AI making the topographical data into something that looks realistic but uses a reasonable number of data points. Then AI to help place buildings, houses, roads, trees and such, but look "organic" and natural?

It's still the same. Just slightly wetter due to global warming.
