Grimes Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 just curious, but why is the interior of a Black Hawk this nicely detailed? Granted its not amazing lifelike detail, its still considerably more that what we would actually see when playing the game. I can understand having that detail available for the movie makers for close up shots, but isn't that just textures put into memory that we will never ever see when playing the game. Or is there an hidden future to it? :music_whistling: The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. warthogmadman987 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Actually, I had a thought. I thought that possibly we might be able to sit into those positions, much like we would be able to exit the blackshark when we land. I dont think we would be able to do much, but it might be a perk. I get that feeling cause it seems like some of the shots show this, especially the one Grimes posted. It seems you can see the back shoulder of the guy sitting at the side gun, much like you or I would see if we were sitting in that spot. And I know that many will say that a date can not be set, but if 1C is the official distributor, than is the Q2 release real at all? Also if this is the case of using 1C, what game protection have they used in the past?
Esac_mirmidon Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 And why not if the 3D builders could do it? " You must think in russian.." Verdungo Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I checked some of 1C's games and it seems that they have used at least Securom and StarForce. For example UFO: Afterlight (2007), UFO: Aftermath (2003), and A.I.M use Securom, whereas UFO: Aftershock (2005) and Russian version of Death to Spies (2007) use StarForce. So it is possible that 1C releases StarForce protected games in the future, but I don't think that's the case if the developer doesn't want it.
EvilBivol-1 Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 For clarification - 1C is the CIS publisher. ED is self-publishing DCS outside of the CIS. ED's release date estimate still stands - 2008. Believe in anything else at your own risk. :) - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. Trident Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I think some of those shots provide the first good look at the new terrain mesh, and it looks quite promising to me. Still waiting for a close-up shot of a proper gorge in the Caucasus range though ;) It also seems that visible range for buildings and trees has increased, or is that a function of viewing the LOMAC world from a helicopter POV? Certainly a possibility, given that LOMAC provided visibility far in excess of any helo sim to date, so it might be an illusion due to the low altitude perspective.
Grimes Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I was more or less commenting on why there is such a level of detail. Yes its great for the movie makers, they can have extreme close ups and all the models will look great. But in terms of flying the Ka-50 in game, that detail is useless as we will never see it. I suppose that LOD state kicks in when you get really close to the thing then? The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. ED Team Wags Posted March 18, 2008 ED Team Posted March 18, 2008 Many of the units in DCS have a very high level of detail, more so than most folks think would be needed. However, when we create new objects for DCS, we are creating them for the long-haul when such levels of detail may be needed later. This is more efficient than having to go back and redo the models again and to add detail. Also, in addition to using these models in DCS, they will be used for other purposes that require such detail. Naturally, most objects have level of detail (LOD) models to keep the frame rates up. It would be great to have some sort of "Encyclopedia" on the main DCS website what vehicles and weapons are already in DCS or in development.
