shake307 Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 So, it all started with mission 1 of the Deployment campaign. Fail mission because the Hind I am following keeps running into the same tree. Don't really know why I fail that mission, he is the one who crashed. Suggestion I have found is to download a fixed campaign as a mod. Is that really a solution though? Give up on that campaign and decide to dust off the Mig-21. Go into the radar training mission to start refreshing myself on Fishbed operations. My FPS drops to 30 and below. Change graphics settings, but still the same. Find out through some research that the radar causes massive FPS drops. Seriously? With a ryzen 3900x and 2080 super? Best solution, roll back nvidia drivers to something 8 months old. That is the fix. Been an issue, from what I can tell, for quite some time. So, no fix. Decide to see if the same thing happens in the Viggen. Yup. Same "fix" too. Just roll back the drivers. Okay, so now I am starting to get annoyed with all of this. To recap, I have a campaign I can't even really start because the AI keeps crashing. The Mig-21 is pretty much useless as I can't use the radar in an INTERCEPTOR. And the Viggen is doing the same thing with its radar. Now, I just throw my hands in the air and decide I will just do the Georgian Oil War Campaign. I love the KA-50 and am getting good with it, besides rockets (rocket damage is a whole other ball of wax). Mission 1 has me start on the heli pad with another KA-50 inside my KA-50. They explode and I fail the mission. So, researching fixes for these problems, I am not really finding and fixes. Just more problems from other people. F/A-18 SA screen causing FPS drops is one I have come across a few times. Again, and for years now, rocket damage is low. But an AK-47 can golden BB my Huey. Viper being incomplete. Too scared to see all the hot garbage waiting for me in the A-10C. But we are still getting new maps and being sold unfinished aircraft at full price. Oh, and Black Shark 3 and A-10C II are coming out, for a small fee. I know this post will probably be deleted, and I will get slammed with the ban hammer, but I know I am not the only one that is getting irritated with all this. Everytime I try to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and try something else, another issue rears its ugly head and nothing seems to be getting done. TOViper Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) Welcome to DCS  Same sort of happenings during the last weeks made me reduce time I spend with DCS, and I think I will reduce it further. I've designed some bigger missions in the past, and started a new one for Syria map recently. I have so many ideas, but most of them simply are a nightmare to implement. Looking now at different forums, and also looking into my mission editor ... I decided to stop this project. Why? The mission editor is super exhausting; I cannot rely on most of the AI's behavior, they just can't fly dependable (as easy as this); The documentation is often a night-mare, and LUA gives me the rest. I spent much life time with finding work-around for bugs and issues, which ED is not paying enough attention (or they keep them busy since/for months/years). The latter not only relates to ED, but meanwhile other as well. Currently (and that counts for me personally only, and especially seen from a mission designers point of view), DCS is just super annoying, nothing more. That view might change in the future, but currently this is the way I feel about. Covid-19 is around, and that doesn't make things easier for all. Other guys around might tell you much more motivating things, but you can be sure you are not alone, and I can feel your pain about all this, I really do! On the other hand: If we forget about all this, ... DCS is amazing, isn't it? :D Edited September 3, 2020 by TOViper Visit https://www.viggen.training ...Viggen... what more can you ask for? my computer: AMD Ryzen 5600G 4.4 GHz | NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB | 32 GB 3.2 GHz DDR4 DUAL | SSD 980 256 GB SYS + SSD 2TB DCS | TM Warthog Stick + Throttle + TRP | Rift CV1
AeriaGloria Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Go to user files and download the patch for deployment, oil war, and all Ka-50 missions you want. It’s by this guy named mad dog IC who updates a lot of ED campaigns to make them work after 2.5. You don’t have to patch you can download it into user missions or campaigns to have it separately if you want Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

Everytime I try to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and try something else, another issue rears its ugly head and nothing seems to be getting done. Just the community offering band aids for solutions. I appreciate your points and have had the same journey, from my point of view, I decided to help remedy these issues and others, I have spend thousand of hours over the last 4 to 5 years keeping campaigns and single missions running correctly from DCS v1.2, v1.5 and now v2.5 but they are getting broken at an exponential rate with patches, much like the covid infection rate curves. This work has been largely done for free for ED and the user base, what puzzles me the most is that: You can give ED fixed and working versions and they don't want to implement them in game some times for their own reasons. Some users and not the majority don't want to use them because it is done by a USER on the internet and are seen as a MOD and require a little effort to install and they should be in the game they paid for (Righly so I think also). So the take away from this is: Try and help get it fixed through the official forums (Not very successful sometimes). Fix the issues yourself if possible and your inclined to do that sort of thing. Use the free MODS of the campaigns and missions available that have had substancial testing done on them in the past to prove they were working (Authors can't for see future issues introduced with patches, games graphics engine and map modernisations updates). Spare a thought for all the creators and editors of campaigns and missions that have spend hundreds of hours creating content for others to enjoy, only to see it stuffed at what seems every DCS patch these days (Requiring them to micromanage the issues with corrections, work arounds, re-testing, etc). Getting to frustrated with game in general because of all issues, DON'T PLAY IT !!!, move on and find other more enjoyable endeavours such as other games that are more reliable and fun to play, do real life activities, there are thousands of other things you can do. Also your able to vote with your wallet, don't like how things are going, don't buy anymore content, use the money on other hobbies, activities you actually enjoy just as much. Regards, Ian. Please keep your game updated if you haven't. Stable (ramp start) Open beta (parking hot) ---

In my experience the paid campaigns usually have a higher level of support, they have stopped selling campaigns in the past because the original creator no longer wanted to fix it for new version of DCS. And in that case, like with piercing fury by Ranger79 it was made free in its broken state so anyone could fix it if they wanted. It does suck sometimes, I have a hunch the only reason Mad Dogs fixes haven’t been added is ED is worried about sparing enough testers. I wonder what would happen if you got some people from the open beta testing group to test it if ED would accept it then. This community is all about helping each other and very mod heavy, so I’m thankful that Mad Dog makes his stuff available on user files Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

We do have rules here which can be found at the top of the page, mostly it is about being courteous and polite when giving feedback, most decent human beings can manage this :) Ka-50 parking issue in the campaign has been fixed, make sure you have the latest version and have updated DCS. if you still see issues let me know. When reporting issues use one thread per bug report it is easier to manage and check, include tracks if possible. Performance issues are a minefield, everyone's hardware and software configurations can be different, some have no issues others do, we try to help as many as we can. But we are also working on improvements. Improvements can take a long time, and it can get frustrating for sure, we have been around longer than many other simulators and we are still going, we are working with some old code which can have its own challenges, millions of lines of code. Hopefully we can do better, we certainly try to. thank you Edited September 4, 2020 by BIGNEWY Forum rules - DCS Crashing? OnlyforDCS Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 @Bignewy No one doubts the dedication or sincerity of the developers and mods on these boards, but still the OP makes some good points. I have a question. Have tracks been fixed yet? The last time I tried replaying one, it didn't go so well. At this point why even have them? I mean they have been broken for years now. Tracks vary, I use them everyday, shorter tracks are better, tracks that are from dynamic servers are a waste of time. I would say 80% of tracks I use work to show an issue if I am investigating something. Most of those tracks are short and to the point to show a problem. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Flappie Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Furthermore, track files contain the mission, which can be useful to reproduce an issue when the track is too long or that the one who tries to play it doesn't possess the module. Here's a recent example. ---
OnlyforDCS Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Yes I fully understand the value of tracks, which makes it all the more ridiculous that even after all these years tracks do not work correctly 100% of the time. This is just one among countless examples of deep seated and inherent problems within DCS World. The biggest issue with track replays is it is only really replaying your actions, AI may react differently on a replay. We do need a different or improved system for sure, but finding the time and resources at the moment is a challenge, so the team have to be selective with which projects they focus on. thanks Forum rules - DCS Crashing? shake307 Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 First, I would like to offer my apologies for my original post. It was written from a point of irritation. Now, to answer some concerns. I am up to date in the Open Beta, DCS checks for updates every time I start it. I know this is old news now, but ground clutter is the definite cause of FPS drops in the Mig-21 radar. Can't quite tell with the Viggen, probably the same issue or close to it. Haven't really tested it yet. I realize that this is Open Beta and we are, in a sense, testers. Hopefully the radar issues get fixed soon. There has been a lot of feedback, both from players and from ED. Just saw today opening up DCS they posted a bit of news saying they are working on the radar issue. Thanks for that. And thanks to all that replied trying to help. I am a troubleshooter by trade, so it is what I do. Doesn't mean it doesn't get frustrating at times. Thanks all.
