i do some video editing by myself from time to time, and it is a real pain in the *** to optimise the output - so i would definitely say it's not worth the effort of (at least!) +100% workload only for a small piece of the eyecandy-cake...

Choose the same FPS and resolution while choosing the xvid instead of wmv. You should get smaller filesize with the same quality. Choose 30% higher FPS and you should get about 30% bigger file. Isn't it the case.

Note that PNs are 30FPS while ingame FPS during recording are clearly lower. IMO it means that some of frames are redundant. You should record at least at 30FPS ingame to get optimal output for 30FPS video. Correct me if I'm wrong.

In the end using built in renderer + xvid with 30 FPS and same resolution set should give:

- 30 REAL FPS

- same filesize

- same quality.

No offence intended to you Bucic, but I think that the Hi-res versions of the notes are perfectly fine for their task.

To have frame by frame rendered output from the game and then compressing it to xvid (or whatever) would be a lot more work and will end up weighing a lot more...dont forget, Matt has to consider filesize Vs quality.

Fine details like you want to see are not really what these notes are about I would expect.

It would be nice if he could tweak the compression so the mouse pointer doesn't get lost though ;) , but I expect that would increase the filesize a fair bit also.

*edit* just read your post above, and I see what you are getting at..you are correct, you could get improved quality for little or no gain in filesize , however the onus is then on Mat to be able to output at greater or = to 30fps , which may not be possible on his rig with the Beta ? To my mind, the Notes should inconvienince the team a little as possible, as they are obviously done specifically to whet our fanboy appetites. .. simple seems better, and it doesn't get more simple than FRAPS at whatever framerate you get.

Ofcourse no offence. Like I said before - I am no expert on this matter. I'm just speculating here:)

It's a lot work for a computer - user doesn't have to participate. I remember about the filesize but have you read the outcome of my speculation? Same filesize - better all the rest possibly except of convenience.

I'm not into details realy. I'm into 'the feel' of physics modeling which is manifested by animation which needs high FPS. For the rest of PNs current FPS is fine.

Convinience more important - agree!

If one can play at 30 FPS he can get a 30 FPS video using 'renderer'. If we're talking about FRAPS-sure it's the reason! I don't think Mat's doing this deliberately;)

We went little Off-Topic. Is there a hope to have release before 12th position on Producer's Notes list?

Sharp remark, I think everybody is thinking the same really, 12 production videos is aprox. 6 month more from now -> near December :(

I really HOPED a September-October release... anyway if it was like that, they would come out a precise release date round now I think :(

Regarding FPS, most of my movies are finliazed at around 50 fps (at avarage), but the *default* FPS value when *RENDERING* (with sony vegas, using .WMV) is set at around 29 fps. So if you want a movie with more FPS than this, you have to remember to change the FPS value.

Yupp, even 24 fps is enough - like in movie.

And it DOES make a difference:) I remember... oh... here it is http://youtube.com/watch?v=k64imlW40cw It looks insane! Like it's on 100 FPS.

Yep for me it is important to have minimum 25 FPS, but better 30 - image is smooth, all above it is for me "waste" if I can name it like this.

Apologize for starting question about release date... :tomato:

So when can we ask about it. I know, i know - You're gonna tell us when it's ready.

Haha never mind men. All what we can do is to wait and keep the support to ED (I think they aren't really programmers, but artist, and BlackShark is their MonaLisa :))

Yup, but then again, 90% of those clips have been sped up beyond normal in-game speed, so that's one way to sorta "fake" high fps. :P

You are making bad assumptions:

1- You assume the game will not be released until all the planned notes are done.

2- You assume we will not continue the notes even after the game is released.

We are still shooting for a 2008 release.

Fantastic,This will keep us guessing!!!

Please, aim well. You don't want to say more exact date than a year of release, so if You could give us a WIP status it would be really wonderfull... Is it finished in 85 - 95%? Maybe some kind of bar with rising WIP progress presented on the forum or main site will do pretty nice - no one will ask "when" never again.
