Check here

it does't exlain why...

but how

https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/smart-access-memory

from what i got a cpu can access and map only a part of the VRam

rising the bar (resize Bar options in bios) on how much vram a cpu can access it removes a limit and avoid some extra calls from the cpu...

AMD adoption and marketing pushed Intel and Nvidia to use this tech.

and probably game builders will use it more too, and we'll all get some little improvements for free.

I'm curious to see how the sam technology will develop at Nvidia. They have now also announced something.
Only this presumably presupposes PCI 4.0. In addition to the dema, also a Ryzen 5000.
That would mean buying a new motherboard and a new CPU for full performance.
And I actually want to avoid that myself. My hardware is kanapp 2 years old.
At the moment I'm still using the RTX 3080, unless I'm lucky next week and get an RX 6900 XT.

Maybe you don't need a new motherboard if it already supports PCI_E4, ASUS PRIME X470 is on the list of motherboard which have the right chipset for BIOS update look for the info.

https://wccftech.com/amd-motherboards-with-ryzen-5000-series-support-roundup-upgrade-to-500-series-bios-with-agesa-1-1-0-0-for-the-best-experience/

Update is AGESA ComboAm4v2PI 1.1.0.0 BIOS update.

Once you updated your Bios your board should support all Zen 3/5000 series functions.

Personally I am just waiting for the Ryzen 5 5600X to be available, my board is supported, MSI support confirned it to me (less than one hour after I emailed them, today).

MSI aims to deliver the best performance possible to its Intel 400-Series motherboards by enabling support for the Re-Size BAR system memory-enhancing feature. Re-Size BAR is a platform approach to deliver more performance by allowing the system to access the VRAM on the graphics cards. This is the same feature concept of AMD Smart Access Memory which is available on AMD 500-Series motherboards powered by AMD Ryzen 5000-Series processors paired with AMD Radeon RX 6000-Series GPUs. As for Intel 400-Series’ Re-Size BAR support, it also works with AMD Radeon RX 6000-Series GPUs as seen on the screenshot below showing the MSI MEG Z490 GODLIKE with Re-Size BAR support.

https://www.vortez.net/news_story/msi_readies_bios_update_for_intel_400_series_motherboard_to_support_re_size_bar.html

This feature could help developers speeding up DCS at high resolutions by allowing them to use 16Gb of RAM to counter possible bottlenecks.

Thanks for the additional benchmarks.  £700 (ish) is suddenly sounding less appealing for a 50% frame improvement.

Thank a lot to you Jayroc and your crew for the time and effort that went into providing this benchmarks.
This is a hard to find dcs specific benchmark in vr.
Very useful information and a good hardware buyer's guide.

Hey! Are you sure single rank RAM is best for your Ryzen 5600X System?

Anyway, the 5600X/6800XT combo should work for me in the future with my G2, I'll upgrade GPU or CPU depending on availability from the end of this month.

A friend has the same RAM as dual ranked 32GB with an 5600x and mine has the better latencies and through put.

There are also some tests out there which come to the same conclusion. Its not way better, and i doubt anyone would recognise while gaming.

So grab whatever is cheaper.

A standard RX 6800XT would provide me with a minimum of (43%) increase in Average 4K Performance over my EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2, then I can expect anything from 4% to 10% on FPS with Smart Memory Access feature in the Radeon gear, with nearly up to 10% improvement to be expected from going from 2 sticks to 4 sticks, not mentioning the RAM optimized for Rysen.

Lowest price of the EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 is about £352.93 (Second hand Ebay, postage not included), I did find Radeon RX 6800 XT MBA 16GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Cards from 679.99.

That's for the GPU performances increase only, there is more than just bench data in this card.

Thanks! I have a good deal on the G.SKILL Trident Z Neo, it's not the cheapest but tested was consistently top of the tests so I'll go for it for the stake of optimization.

You guys are doing a terrific job at informing people, thanks! 👍

Is it possible for you to test using a Rift S, or maybe just to downsample the PiMax so that us peons with less resolution (Im using a Rift S) could see how those two cards perform at more standard VR resolutions? 😅 Thank you.

(Now if only I could find a 3080 or a 6800XT somewhere in stock)

Have a lock at our HP Reverb G2 benchmark ->

Looks like my 1080ti is still good on the new 5900X with Odyssey@1.5.

I am happy with my Odyssey on my 1080ti. No need for an upgrade. Unless you dont know where to throw your money at 😉

Hey! Thanks for all the advises. I can start the Benchmark with my actual CV1, I haven't received my G2 yet and I don't have a F-18, it starts with a SU-25.

Mission start OK but I am stock not knowing how to activate the test once prompted. Which key is it?

Cheers!

It is allways the SU-25. I think he choose it, because everyone can access it.

With "a" you start the autopilot. After that you have to activate your fps counter tool of choice.

We used fpsVR. There you first have to activate history in the settings. If they are on, you can open Settings->Basic. With the reset button you kinda start and stop. In your Windows document folder you can find the log files and the tool to view them.

VpsVr is only available on Steam.
Does that mean I would have to use DCS through Steam?
So far I have used DCS without Steam, but if only the SU-25 is used for the tests now, I can also install the Steam version.
That would actually make sense, since the SU-25 is free of charge.

I have also not the Steam version, but all the HMDs use SteamVR even for the non steam version. So you can start everything normal and just open fpsVR.
