lcabc888 Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Guys, what is the best AG weapon to kill a ammunition depot? I used 10 GBU-12s it won't work.
Bunny Clark Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Yup, the 500 pound GBU-12s aren't going to have much luck punching through. Right now your best option is something with a 2,000 pound blast fragmentation warhead, which would be the Mk.84 or GBU-10. Ideally something with a penetration warhead is really what you want, best would be a 2,000 pound BLU-109 warhead, which we'll get eventually on the GBU-24 and GBU-31. The 1,000 pound unity warhead on the AGM-154C would also be a good option, trading off some penetration power for standoff range. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Tholozor Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Heavy warhead Mavericks like the G and K models are good options as well. Terzi Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 There is nothing that double gbu-10s wont penetrate
lcabc888 Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 @Terzi I tried 4 GBU10s is works a little bit, at least it went on fire, but not destroyed. But thanks for your tips!

But thanks for your tips! In fact it is already dead, but it needs some time to get the actual destruction. I forgot to mention that it does not get destroyed immediately. It will explode like fireworks for some time. 1
lcabc888 Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 Ok, How much time will it get destroyed?
Bunny Clark Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 In DCS if you start something on fire you've killed it. It won't actually explode and count as destroyed for a little while, but it will go eventually. At least, this is true with vehicles and buildings. Aircraft are more complex and sometimes more frustrating. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Bunny's: Form-Fillable Controller Layout PDFs | HOTAS Kneeboards | Checklist Kneeboards

Tholozor Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 (edited) The warhead on G and K model Mavericks uses a penetrating warhead (E and F models as well). Doesn't matter that it's only 300lbs: it's 300lbs that's gonna go off on the inside. Bunny Clark Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 One advantage the AGM-65G has is speed. Especially when fired at close range, the extra impact velocity can really help it penetrate. At least, that's true in real life. I'm not sure how well that's modeled in DCS. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign. Two Mk-84 will do just fine. As others have pointed out it may take a little while to explode after the initial hit (around 80 Seconds in my case). 1

You want the warhead to penetrate first, then trigger. A general purpose bomb will never have a high penetrating capability. Since the bomb casing is much thinner than a "real" penetrator, the GP bomb body will just collapse on impact, no matter what fuse you use and on what setting Edited December 18, 2020 by Falconeer Planes: Choppers: Maps: Flaming Cliffs 3 Black Shark 2 Syria A-10C Tank killer 2 Black Shark 3 Persian Gulf F/A18C Hornet AH-64 Apache Mariana's F-16C Viper Afghanistan F-15E Strike Eagle Kola Peninsula Mirage 2000C AJS-37 Viggen JF-17 Thunder F-14 Tomcat F-4E Phantom

Yup, since we only have the BLU-109 version in the game so far. Once (if?) the Mk.84 version gets added it'll be less effective against hard targets. Oil In The Water Hornet Campaign.
