The nuclear poll (version 2)

  1. 1. The nuclear poll (version 2)

    • Yes, its a part of the arsenal, and potentially at least, a part of modern warfare
      40
    • Yes, it is irresponsible to model a cold war scale battle without this horror of the nuclear card
      4
    • Yes, I want to drop them! (strange love fans - of course such a weapon is unrealistic for the Ka-50)
      5
    • Yes, as a special effect for use as a distant explosion (end campaign cinematics -an unhappy ending)
      2
    • Yes, but only model radiation/crater for the aftermath of a terrorist attack or limited exchange
      4
    • Not now, but maybe in a fixed-wing sequel to the game (ie. it doesn't fit in a helo sim)
      17
    • No, it is too serious a subject (and possibly desensitising or normalising)
      10
    • No, it isn't feasible to be modeled accurately at this time (ie. insufficient hardware power)
      3
    • No, it is not a good use of time and resources (not enough of a priority)
      50
    • No, there are already too many nuclear weapons without us making digital ones

First: I am not affiliated with ED. I have no influence in the development of Black Shark nor am I any better indicator of what they will do than a dead chicken is an indicator of the future.

This poll is being done out of my own personal curiosity: Nuclear weapons have always been a touchy issue in flight simulators. I created a poll on the subject some time ago and it stimulated an interesting discussion. Unfortunately the poll was to simple to to capture the variety and complexity of positions people had. So, I decided it would be good to make a second attempt.

Anyway, to break up the monotony while we're waiting for the next bit of news: Should sims like DCS eventually model nuclear weapons?

In conclusion: I am not affiliated with ED. I have no influence in the development of Black Shark nor am I any better indicator of what they will do than a dead chicken is an indicator of the future.

You dont have an appropriate choice for me. My computer lacks the horsepower to draw a mushroom cloud...it does an OK job in World in Conflict, but it brings my system to its knees too.

Option 8 would be choice.

I think, you should add a point "No, because i think, that it too blood-thirstyly, even in a game" :smilewink:.

Unfortunately, I can't edit it at this point. Option 10 might be the closest, though?

It is a lot of options, isn't it? Nuclear weapons are a complicated topic which has very simple implications, I think.

I would like to vote for

"No, because they wouldn't fit into the modeled theater and scale of war."

Okay, they don't fit in WiC either, as I doubt the USA would drop the bomb on Chicago, but there it's part of the cold war going hot-thing.

Very interesting question, though!

Voted for yes. Nuclear weapon exist and terrorists can use it. So why not implemet it? It is weapon like others. Used to kill.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I do not think it would be very fun to use them. I agree with xhaos, you could not have them online because every one will try to use them and the game would crash. Besides, what the fun in lofting a bomb in the direction of the opponent and running the other way in hopes you can get out of the blast zone? So I voted for: "No, it is not a good use of time and resources (not enough of a priority)"

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

I voted NO...etc etc etc for simple reason... no one would use it... in real life or in sim... if someone didso would everyone else then game would be over in before you could say fin............................

Now to get serious: it should be done once the MiG-29 is modeled. It's a part of the arsenal and should be there. At least the practice version.

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

I remember playing a demo of a sim long ago which had it and it was sort of fun. I would like to see it in DCS, just a smaller tactical nuclear weapon, but I'm not sure it's possible considering the data they'll need to model it properly.

If they add it, it would probably be the best that to drop one you have to set an attack point on the map and request permission (and wait for response) to launch when you're at your target or something.. It would suck having everyone flying around with nukes as a last resort weapon to take everyone nearby with them when they get hit.

It makes no sense to use nukes! The fact is friend or foe would never win such a terrible move -- it's an equalizer! Pls study the outcome of a nuclear detonation...

I voted NO!

I voted NO!

And war makes sense anyhow?

Sorry, can't vote, too busy tittering at the idea of a helicopter-delivered gravity bomb...

Sorta like the Davey Crocket nuclear recoilless rifle.

Personally I have warm fuzzy feelings about the B61 mod for Janes F15E and the loft-delivery profile.

I voted NO!

There are also nuclear weapons with weaker warheads but still - no.

And war makes sense anyhow?

Yes.

IMO nuclear weapons should be waaaay down in priority list if at all. Even below a working fan in Mi-24 cockpit :P

That should be way up the list! ..not kidding :noexpression:

Hi

Voted : "No, it isn't feasible to be modeled accurately at this time (ie. insufficient hardware power)"

But IMO, hardware power isn't the first concern.

DCS features highly detailled aircraft(s), avionics & associated procedures. For this reason, ED can't modelise any aircraft they want : there is the need of available, unclassified & accurate data.

So ? Well, if somebody here imagine that nuclear weapons related procedures (authozisations...) are public, I'll advice this person to go get a doctor (or at least some documentation about the subject).

I don't even enter the debate "sould ED include nukes or not", the fact is they can't do this within the quality / accuracy standarts set for DCS.

My 2 cents...

Cheers

I think it wouldn't make the game any better, while wasting dev resources that could be used for improving more important aspects of the sim.
